Their "expertise" has made any credibility go out the window. While I know there are some logical members over there, the masses chase anyone with the smallest scent of disagreement out. Been there, never again, I don't have the time for that non-sense, there's enough of that bullshit in the world already.

Well that was actually before his own label and the work he did with big Kev and the other fella he used to work with.

He was an in house mastering consultant for a label and he took the master tapes and cut and spliced the originals to his own tastes. He was sacked and then went off on his own wierd journey.

In all honest, and in fairness he admits this, he isn’t a mastering engineer, he’s an EQ consultant. The fact that he eventually falls out with everyone means he likely doesn’t have a mastering engineer to work with right now…

If you want a laugh find the argument he had with a former Sony engineer who is now with mofi. He contradicted everything the Hoff said about him mofi and Sony in a post 😂

The music threads are pointless on there. They’re echo chambers focused almost entirely on pre-80s music.

The gear forums have a lot of potential expertise on there but the snobbishness, oh my god, you’d think anything under a grand was a pile of shit listening to them and as we all know there is plenty of good stuff at lower price points.

there were people on the MoFi thread the other week saying that the price of one steps should be $300 so that anybody with a beginner setup will think twice about buying one steps. they were tired of people with "beginners setups" getting copies of One Steps before they could hahah.

the one somewhat positive thing, and the only reason really why i go back there occasionally, is their classifieds section is pretty decent. i've been surprised at how nice and fair some of the people on there are. i've had a few people sell me some wantlist items at prices way cheaper than discogs/second hand.

I don't know if those with "Beginner" systems are the issue here, I'd lean towards the flipping market more. On a side note, shoot me if you ever see a pic of a One-Step being spun on a suitcase turntable, lol

The same but you totally know that they’re not getting a Crossley’s, theyre not even in Hoff people’s comprehension, they’re totally attacking people with tables like mine or a u-turn or an RP3.

I think there has just been a remarkable hearing up of the market the last 2 years. People stuck at home with nothing to do and more disposable income and its just exacerbated all the worst points of limited availability high cost items.

I don't know if Spotify is the best place to stream this, but oh lord is this such a great album..........everyone needs a copy in some way, shape or form. ;)

Oh, I know, I just hate putting the tables you mention even in that entry level category. While cost wise they very well are, performance wise and what you can accomplish with modest investments with the right gear to help it along is pretty stellar..........that's why I like our little corner of the internet so much ;)

there has been a real shift in the past year more toward vinyl becoming a collectibles market like sneakers or trading cards. tons of limited editions, people working from home (or losing work and trying to find other ways to make money), low supply, etc. plus more people getting into vinyl (or back into it) with working from home and having more disposable income from not going out. doesn't help that places like MoFi release about 100 copies of any given title, it sells out in 5 minutes and then suddenly people are paying $150 for them.

But back to the Beatles... @AnthonyI --I almost forgot how good All Things Must Pass is. The digital 24/192 is really really nice. I think i'm going to stick with this instead of the vinyl since I already have a copy I'm happy with on vinyl.

Yesh totally I don’t even consider them there either. The fact is they’re fundamentally simple designs too which means they can be upgraded to a higher level too at a modest cost. That, and the fact it was a gift, are why I haven’t upgraded my table.

Agreed, it's been the perfect storm.

Ya, I'm liking this, but I don't know if I'm going to go vinyl. My OG is perfect and I like it, I think we'll go CD from Amazon, and if it's as bad as some say it can go back...................and my post was initiated from listening to All Things Must Pass, so I'm with you there :)

Ive never understood the collectables mind set. I love Adidas Originals trainers and have owned some pretty rare special editions but I throw away the box when i get home and wear them 😂

Yeah it’s a great album, my favourite Beatles solo, and the trigger to me was having the mix you have only on CD and not owing it on vinyl at all, I think your decision is a really sensible one.

@Joe Mac, do you think the 5 disc set is worth entertaining with the BR or not?I haven't looked into opinions of BR audio as of yet.

I'm not one for the collectors mindset either. Drives me crazy to see people buying One Steps and just leaving them sealed haha.

I personally wouldn’t go there becuase I’m not into extras hugely unless they’re studio quality different tracks or an artist like Dylan who can radically change a song depending on where the muse is taking him. I also have hi res streaming on Qobuz so don’t need the BR for the 24/192 version. I think the value of the set to you depends on whether your money varies from mine on those points.

Edit: My understanding is that the BR, and forgive me please if I’m wrong, for these 50th anniversary editions has contained 24/192 FLAC files the same as you’d get on Qobuz HiRes or Tidal Masters.

I do like those little extras, but haven't gotten to them on the stream yet so we'll see. I think that will be the tilting point and if it's worth 4x the cost...............shit, just reading that makes me wonder WTF I'm thinking, lol

With Qobuz HiRes I’m increasingly less likely to buy thess kind of things unheard because I can sample first and then reserve the decision unless it’s something really special like The Esher Sessions or the Radiohead OKNOTOK third disk.
