Although the forum is covered $ wise till May 2023, I was helping with a nonprofit fundraiser recently and I thought some things we did there might work well here. The silent auction style fund raiser was a lot of fun. I know a lot of us have records/equipment/accessories/books we'd be willing to donate and we could probably hit up a few of the places we frequently buy from to ask for some donated items to list too. Then the money goes to the site and the bidders get to support the forum and get a prize. It could be six months from pifsgiving each year so as not to compete with that spirit of giving. Not sure about the legal side of this (if there is one) but if there was extra above operating costs then maybe the forum could sponsor pifsgiving prizes or some other cool things.

Just throwing this out there cause I love this place and want to help keep it going for others too! And you all running things around here kick ass. Thank you for helping to make this place a meaningful space for a lot us in this way too often shitty world. 🖖🤘✌️

Can it be called a SILENT BUT DEADLY auction?
 
The server is finally working well enough for me to connect and work behind the scenes to fix some issues. I was unable to do that earlier with connection timeout errors.

One of the tables in the forums database tables crashed when we were having server issues. I'm sure you all probably noticed the error message when trying to post. I just did some database maintenance and repaired the table so hopefully we are good to go and that all issues are now resolved on our hosts side.

Not currently.

It is potentially possible through XenForo via a yearly subscription for a premium membership. Other forums generally offer stuff like this with premium memberships:
  • Ad Free experience
  • Premium user banner
  • Exclusive premium members only forums

We don't have Ads so and ad free experience is not a benefit we can provide. As for the other two perks, we kind of felt like we didn't want any subset of users to be special over others. But if these are something the community really wants to help chip in I suppose we can reopen discussion on the topic in our future planning.

I don't need any fancy perks or nothing. Is there like a designated PayPal we use to fund our hosting, etc.?

I would be down for a “premium experience” maybe similar to Letterboxd add “pro” to my avatar, give me the ability to post images/gif to my profile posts and allow me to give myself a funny title for like a $20 annual subscription. If cost were reasonable, maybe do a $50 annual membership and include the aforementioned perks plus an annual “Friends of N&G” limited edition T-Shirt or some shit like that.

I'd love to be able to have "Database Thug" as my custom title.
