Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

If the jacket just says "Additional Instrumentation by" and then lists performers along with the associated tracks, do I add and "Additional Instrumentation" credit for those tracks to add the artists? Doesn't seem like that is in the database so I was wondering if there is a better way.

Edit: oh, also, if I can figure out what instrument they contributed with, should I put that, or do we limit it to the information printed on the release?

You can do either a track credit or regular credit and add the track they are credited on. I usually go with what is printed on the release.

Looking at the credits list, I'm not sure an "Instrumentation By" would be the best - as this is a Writing & Arrangement credit, and not a performing credit.

"Performer [Additional Instrumentation By]" may be the best credit if these are really performing credits.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that link, good to know.

I need to step away from that Club Edition thread for a bit....

I got this merge happening...some yes vote would be nice, thanks.

New 2021 repress is identical to the 2019, which was identical to the 2015 and was merged a year ago.

And already a user barely on Discogs a month voted no.

It's been something they have been dealing with for a little while.

They added some protection to some submissions that are on the trending page, as those are the ones they seem to be going after.

Doesn't seem to be working much.

of course the moron troll(s) hit up the submissions i'd recently made edits to so my inbox was flooded yesterday afternoon.

discogs folks are catching these pretty quickly now so i'm scratching my head as to what the offender is getting out of this. maybe they just enjoy reading the panic filled comments in the submission history while less in-the-know folks try in vain to disable the images?

If they really want to troll the community they should post a photo of a trending album with a hype sticker or Obi in the main photo. I think people might still be fighting about that on VMP Ghostface Killah - Fishscale entry.

LOL! I just pulled the history and the last comment was from @Mather a month ago simply stating “Sweet Jesus…”

EU / UK members do you guys understand the implications of the new VAT charges as buyer/seller. Is that added on top paid by the buyer or does discogs invoice the seller later?

It was two really poorly worded emails!

I understood it as if you are a store business with a VAT registration you enter those details and it’s up to you as it would be on your own web store.

Then if you’re a casual buyer/seller cogs will add the appropriate VAT onto the buying price the seller charges, it will generate all the customs forms to print off and stick on the parcel, and then it will be added onto your bill at the end of the month. Much like the method currently used for US sales tax.

Alright so does that mean you will see VAT included in the price as the buyer or does that get added on after?

You’d have to ask someone on the US side how the sales tax works. I’ve only been on the selling side with that. My guess would be that it doesn’t show until the item is in the basket.

Stupid question in need of a quick sanity check:
Found a copy of a record from a seller in the UK, but I’m currently prohibited from purchasing/making an offer from the US. Seller says he doesn’t know anything about that. This is definitely a setting on his end and not some restriction Discogs has in place right?

I would assume something the seller has goofed up on the rules yes, I am guessing related to the shipping rules update a little while back. Probably easiest way to verify is to find something else with UK sellers and check against it, if you can buy from one UK seller then it's probably not a full on region lock. The listing below has UK sellers for me both that I can buy from (queencollector91, afrika1974) and ones I can't (151records, pcornish1) for instance.

Probably his shipping policies. (or lack thereof)
