June 2021 Vinyl Spin Challenge: 🌈☀️Holidaze 🎶🪐

I officially became a permanent remote employee this month. Enjoying my record collection has been one of the best parts of switching over to WFH.

I teach, so being back in person is a huge plus (teaching languages over screens is definitely not ideal)... but not for my record-playing time.

Log Cabin Day - Pioneers and modern campers agree, log cabins stack up!

My daughter is headed to camp this week....what is going to be the hottest week Oregon has seen in a long time. Supposed to be 114 on Sunday - the day we drop her off...then 110....then high 90's the rest of the week.

I hope she makes it. They have a pool...and it's in the woods, so it may be a little cooler there, but it's still going to be hot.

National Food Truck Day

Sun Ra - Continuation

Food trucks for me for years were definitely a festival thing before they got super popular in cities (and rightly so, I think it provides great opportunities for both business and consumers!) - even at festivals where I was being fed for volunteering or performing, unless I was too broke I would try to hit up at least a couple/few of the trucks.

I don't know what kind of food trucks they would have at a festival on Jupiter, but I'd be keen to give that grub a shot!

Day 26: National Canoe Day
🎶Alright, already, we'll all float on. 🎵🛶

Animal Collective - Feels

So initially I thought the song “Flesh Canoe” was some sort of dirty slang for like a wang or something (and honestly, if it’s not, it should be) but the more I thought about it, I vaguely recall native people using stretched animal hide to construct canoes so maybe it’s in reference to that, who knows? All I can say is “Flesh Canoe” was the first thing I thought of when I saw today's categories so I figured that was the best way to go.

Beautician's Day - What is your favorite hairdo on a musician?

For the last few years I've been shaving my head...usually every 3 weeks or so. Makes things simple. The widow's peak I got from my dad has pretty much receded and now my hair grows so uneven/boomerang style that it's just easier to shave it all off.

I do forget how simple a Direct Drive/Auto Return turntable is to play when I haven't used it in years.

Forgiveness Day

Sun Ra - In Some Far Place: Roma '77

If you're going to forgive me, you'll have to quit "Trying To Put The Blame On Me."

...this might just be my favourite of live Sun Ra albums I have.

Took me 25 days to notice, but I just realized you're doing a full-out Sun-Ra month. Were you able to manage every day? Impressive.
