Can anyone recommend the best version of Coltrane's Ole, that is affordable ($25 range)?
Also is the mono version better than the stereo version?
Id normally spring for a $50 audiophile version but I'm not interested in the ORG because of the split in the title track between two sides.
Looks like there is a 2017 mono pressing, but some complaints of noisy pressing there.

I have the 2017 Rhino Mono and like it. Nice and quiet. I have only heard the stereo via streaming so I cannot compare. I have been happy with all my Coltrane Rhino reissues.

I have the Broadway address red and green label Presswell pressing of Ole, and it sounds quite nice.
The Rino mono is good, but this record IMO is best heard in stereo. Agree - the ORG makes zero sense, splitting the title track on two sides. Ruins it.
Look for a good Japanese pressing!

John Coltrane – Olé Coltrane (2010, 180 Gram, Vinyl) I have this one and the Mono, I think this is better in Stereo , this is a Rainbo pressing, But mine is really good Sounds great, I love this album !!

Edit: quick notes on the program. Overall well worth watching, with a good interview with Horace Silver. The first 2 tracks are Horace Silver during a very bad -- in my opinion -- are from a bad composition period for Horace. They are almost cult-movie watching bad -- which is pretty damn awesome.
Lee Morgan does two nice cuts with the 2nd a nice version of Jimmy Merritt's Angela. It isn't mic'd great but there is some really nice moments. Then a Bobby Humphrey and a final groove out from Horace Silver that finds its way home (Acid...Pills) before a great Lee Morgan on the close out

This installment features the musical work of jazz performers Bobbi Humphrey, Lee Morgan, and Horace Silver. In the first segment, pianist Silver plays selections from his new albums. Next, the Lee Morgan Quintet performs "I Remember Brit" and an original tune by bass player Jimmy Merritt titled "Angela," dedicated to Black Panther member Angela Davis. Haizlip interviews composer and performer Horace Silver on his current project, the three-album set titled "The United States of Mine"; his history with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers; and his relationship with the Blue Note label. Next, flutist Bobbi Humphrey performs one piece. Horace Silver then returns to the stage for two more songs. The show closes with a selection by the Lee Morgan Quintet.

Thanks for hipping me (us) to that episode. I've always loved Andy Bey's voice (his work on that first Stanley Clarke solo record is dynamite) but the lyrics are so horrific. Very car crash but I most certainly avoid the vast majority of the Hard Bop Grandpop's 70's output. To redeem, the stuff with Mogie's band is outta sight - with The Black Saint no less.
Speaking of The Black Saint, Harper also plays in Max Roach's group on the Frederick Douglass episode if you are into Max's Lift Every Voice and Sing record. I'm not really a fan of that sort of assemblage but I'm always up for a Billy Harper solo.

Ugh! Jazz in Britain is destroying my bank account. I was just able to get a copy of "On Short Notice" via a US distributor but they are changing the same price as ordering it direct and paying the shipping for a single copy. Pretty unusual, but I was ecstatic to find a copy. Looks like I will be ordering this one now as well!

Shipping came through for the Ill Considered 10 - The Stroke box set today.
The more I have been listening and watching the videos of its production, the more I am excited to get it. Sure it was on the pricey side of what I am usually willing to pay but as a tangible piece of art I think it might just be worth it.

damn. you must have missed it. acoustic sounds is restocking some older APs and the newer reissues (as well as Sam Records and some other releases) on their discogs. Most are the lowest available price and even below original list price in some cases. it will eventually be back in stock on their site since it's not out of print.
