Fresh Grabs

I have both an OG and 20th ann. versions of Black Love. The original is far superior to the reissue. The new version sounds fine, but A/B them and it is compressed and not great dynamic range as the original.

I know I'm not the first one to have issues like this with Amazon, but still. Someone actually ripped part of the shrink off to put a sticker directly on the cover, and in doing that put a huge bend/crease in the cover. What the hell? Amazon CS was pretty worthless too. I guess at least it came in a box with those bubble things. Guess I'll waste my time taking it somewhere to return.

Did get these today too. The Decemberists was from the dent sale, and it has the tiniest ding in the corner. Seems that happens way more often than it should, and they were noticing and setting those aside. That's how you do it.

The only time I've seen a sticker like that on an Amazon purchase was a Warehouse Deal. Was it a brand new item?

Continue with the beers with friends and It'll all be alright.

It was supposed to be brand new, I went back and double checked to make sure. I'm not sure what they were thinking!

I did have a couple beers with a friend tonight, and didn't even think about it!

Youssou N'Dour et Le Super Etoile de Dakar - Diakarlo 83
Sagbohan Danialou
Janusz Muniak Quartet - Placebo
Heavy Metal Sextet

A quartet of obscure grabs. First two are from the wonderful Superfly Records in Paris, filling out my Senegal and Benin collections. Then a couple of real obscurities after I randomly got into Polish jazz musician Muniak and when I found this album it was v cheap but the postage was expensive so I added the interestingly titled Heavy Metal Sextet without knowing anything about them.

A couple of long-awaited deliveries, especially the Tyler Childers records - was on the pre-order the hour they went on sale (in September) and saw people on IG showing there's off back in January. This led to me writing the company once a week for two months and finally - it's now in my hands. The Gillian/Dave Rawlings and Willie Watson are great additions as well - I love everything they do at Acony Records.IMG-5664.jpgIMG-5666.jpgIMG-5669.jpg

Guided By Voices - Propeller
Grateful Dead - Blues For Allah

My GBV and Dead collection got a bit larger today. Propeller was a recent reissue from Scat Records. They always do a wonderful job with their GBV reissues pressed at RTI in a tip-on jacket. Blues For Allah is the MoFi Original Master Recording 2xLP 45rpm reissue. Luckily, @Crabbers helped me out after I missed out on the final pressing.

I've received some new records today and yesterday.

-Myles Sanko's new limited gatefold album "Memories of love" from JPC, a great soul record with good jazz inspired instrumentation.
-the limited silver edition of The Weather Station's current album "Ignorance" from their bandcamp site. Unfortunately this came with seam split on all 3 sides of the sleeve as well as on the upper jacket. I try to ask them if they have extra sleeves at Fat Possum. It was send from the UK to Germany.

The next 3 were great bargains I found on Amazon.
-TV Priest 's new album "Uppers" is a great rock record, a bit in the style of Idles or Fontaines DC
-The Wild Pink album "A billion little lights" is a good indie rock album, a bit in the style of War on Drugs or Death Cab for Cutie. I got it on light blue vinyl, made in Canada, for less than $10. Sometimes it makes sense to search Amazon for good deals on recent records.
-Creeper' s "Sex, death and the infinite void" is a good Indie punk album from last year I wanted to pick up for a while.
