In and Out. BN80 release. I'm hoping Mode for Joe will get a Classics release next year.

In and Out is an excellent option.

Mode For Joe is my favorite Henderson album, although maybe having Lee Morgan in the lineup makes me biased.

Inner Urge is another one worth checking out. Has Coltrane’s band and there are some killer tunes within.

Henderson has some amazing work as a sideman too.

Yes. Through the entire track. Then, it just goes away for track 3. But, returns for almost the entirety of Side 2. Good thing this is the only one I purchased from Amazon, so a replacement should already be on its way.

Just finished my first ever listen of Joe Henderson’s Page One and I’m in love. What a beautiful session! So exciting that I can pick this up all analog from the CL series too, absolutely spoiled with jazz reissues aren’t we?

Where do I go next with Joe Henderson?

Close your eyes and pick but really he didn’t make many albums as the leader that aren’t worth a listen at least. His sideman work is phenomenal as well. Mode For Joe is my favorite of his Blue Notes but really any album of his through the early-mid 70’s is nearly a classic and after that the Village Vanguard sessions are stellar. If you like his Bossa Nova styled tracks, check out Double Rainbow. He covers some of Jobim’s tunes with a Brazilian group and an all star American group.

If you like bossa and Brazillian sounds in particular, then Multiple on Milestone is a great listen, particularly the stunning "Tress-Cun-Deo-La." You can get a sip of the juice on iTunes.

I bought this magazine earlier today to read up on the Lighthouse Box Set and there seems to be an irregularity in there. Jazzwise is stating (several times in fact) that the box set will be an 8LP set but everywhere else I have seen it as a 12LP set. I can only imagine they are confusing it with the 8CD set?

Pretty disappointed with the article overall actually, there's a handful of errors in there that shouldn't have been difficult to pick up, like the incorrect spelling of Helen Moore (more).

To be fair, they do go on to argue that there is not definitive spelling of Moore, even though that is the spelling she used herself. The LP number is a big blunder if they are incorrect though.

I think the Moanin' preorder will probbaly be it BN wise for me this upcoming month right now. Have some other things to get including a box set. I am on the fence for Soul Station ? Any opinions ? I have the RVG cd. Thought about Page One, its a nice hard bop session, but the digital copy I have is also fine for now.

I wonder if they're doing smaller pressing runs of the more recent tone poets and the blue note classics because a lot of them seem to be selling out more quickly than they have in the past. I don't remember it being this difficult to find them so soon after they're released before. or maybe these titles are just more popular?

I think it might be a combination of these titles being more popular and people finding out about the Tone Poet series jumping on them as soon as they are released so they don't miss out ala Chet Baker Sings and Grant Green Nigeria.

Agreed, and a renewed push with the switch to the BN Classics series has also contributed.

Dang you guys are right, haha - I just checked on discogs and it looks like slightly more people actually have the art blakey roots and herbs tone poet in their collections than have the chet baker sings tone poet. Right around 2,000 each on discogs, so if roughly half of the buyers added them to a discogs collection (I feel like it’s usually around half, right?), they’re probably pressing around 4,000 for each of these for the initial release.

I would have guessed between 2,500 and 5,000 so that seems right.
