Definitive Audiophile pressings

Listening to Wayne Shorter’s Adam’s Apple on SRX vinyl with a new turntable/cart and wow, amazing soundstage and presence in the room. Definitely NOT worth current Discogs price, but damn fine.

I've heard Stereo all the way for Hendrix Family pressing of Are You Experienced, but Axis: Bold As Love I've definitely heard some say the Mono version is superior. I only have heard the stereo and it sounds really great.
@Mather I really like the mono of Axis but don't have a stereo to compare it too so not entirely sure what the prevailing opinion is.

In any case, I haven't seen anything but hatred for the 2016 Stones HSMs and I felt very let down by them as well, the ones I've heard.

Im not sure what you mean, it was the first stones to be half speed mastered by abbey road and none of the rest of their own label ones were done until last year. Most hadn’t been reissued since 2010, when universal did a truly appalling job with no abbey road input, with the exception of some girls in 2011 and Sticky Fingers in 2015, nether of which mention anything about being half speed abbey road remasters.

My mistake, the Reissues from 2015 thereabouts, I forgot only Exile was Half-Speed Remastered by Miles. The 2016 Exile is the one that doesn't sound great compared to the one they did in 2020, and I have heard that the 2015 Sticky Fingers wasn't great but some people think it was still better than the 2020.

The only reissue in 2015 was sticky fingers. All the rest were from 2010, with a special edition of Some Girls released in 2011.

The 2015 sticky fingers, which I have is flat, but it’s not an abbey road half speed master, none of them were bar the press of Exile in 2016 that was the very first of the abbey road half speed mastered series that come with the obis and certificate of authenticity.

All fhe other albums were only done and released in 2020, it’s why before that it wasn’t that easy to get hold of new copies of the post Decca Stones albums and the ones, bar exile, that you could all sounded shit.

Yes, I'm speaking of mostly Sticky Fingers and Exile in this case. Lot of hate for those 2 reissues from ~5 years ago.

I believe there was an interview or article I read about Miles Showells speaking on the quality of source file he had to work with when cutting Exile in 2016 vs the much superior source file he was given to cut the 2020 version. Made a big difference. A lot of people make a big hoopla out of "Abby Road Half-Speed Mastering" and all, but when Miles is given a shit source it usually turns into a shit reissue. The Eno half-speeds are so disappointing, but I do think the 2011 Layla (where they used the UK tapes) that Miles did was about as good as you could do Layla though without using all analog mastering.......more examples of the hit or miss nature of Miles' work.

The hate for Sticky Fingers is deserved. The hate for exile isn’t. It’s a miles ahead of the 2010s or the 2015 sticky fingers. The 2020 may be better I don’t know, but lumping it with the others is right either, I had the 2010 exile and it was hateful.

of the versions I have a (a 1972 artisan with plenty of surface noise and static from wear and tear; the 2016 HSM, and the 2020 HSM) the 2016 is really lousy in comparison. I was really disappointed with the 2016 ever since I first got it. The packaging was more true to the original though at least, for the 2020s they kinda cut corners to save a buck on the packaging by not making it replica.

I’ve bought that damn album 4 times now over two mediums, I’m not buying it again! I don’t agree that the 2016 is lousy but I’m not disagreeing that the other sound better because I don’t know. What I can say is that it’s a long way ahead of the 2010 which I think was cut from the same source as it.

this preorder seems new...

You post this, i go hunting for other new additions. Notice Ray Charles Blues is not just out of stock but sold put, I panic and go order one from yellow dog. Damnit @MikeH ! I guess this is what that stimulus check is for.

Allman Brothers at Fillmore was also briefly in stock at MoFi's site but I made the mistake of deciding if I wanted to actually buy it or not haha. I also like using the MD site instead of MoFi since MD lists which things will come back into stock.

And you get free shipping for order over $50! MoFi does not offer free shipping (at least for $125 order)

Any of you pick up the Blue Note Classic Series Sidewinder or Real McCoy? Thoughts? I've read some things...
So, I finally received the first 2 of the Classic series (together with AP L.A Woman, can't wait to spin that one), and currently halfway through listening to The Sidewinder. Let's just say it sounds very good. I just wish it came in the Tone Poet packaging, but other than that it's a 10/10!
