November 2020 Challenge Thread: The End Is Near

As the calendar turns to December so does the party spot. After bidding adieu to November and @D Jilla wonderful spread head on over to @RowBearToe spot I hear he is throwing a killer Christmas Party for the entire month of December....

Day 30: One Month To Go
Play an album that's helped you get through 2020.

Charles Mingus- The Great Concert of Charles Mingus
This last one is difficult as well... if I narrow it down to what have I spun the most in the terrible year of 2020, what I have I walked home hearing in my head and then had to put on, it's probably this. This album taught me everything I know about playing continuo. The rock-solid yet floating dialogue between Mingus and Dannie Richmond can teach everybody so much about swing, note-placement, communication and ensemble playing in general. It was between this, Prince - Sign 'O The Times, any recording of the Schubert Octet and We Want Miles.

Could I just take a moment here to thank you all for having me? I've thoroughly enjoyed this challenge, got a kick out of seeing what you're all spinning and enjoyed bonding with my Boy The FSB from back in the day! That Jon Hassel show hasn't been off my phone since he posted it. Happy Holidays to all of you, keep safe and keep spinning!DSCN0137.JPG

Day 30 - One Month To Go

This is probably my most listened to record of the year. It’s short (15 min), weird, funny, and just generally puts me a good mood.

Tierra Whack - Whack World

Thanks to everyone who participated this month! It was fun to host - checking this thread to see what was played is always one of the small joys of my day. Special shout out to new members @Goodlivingav and @thefsb - hope you join us for future challenges!

It's been a pleasure. Thanks for hosting.

How do these challenges work around here? Is there one each month? If so, I think I should skip Dec. I need to moderate my indulgence in certain things. If so, it doesn't mean I don't want to do it again.

Yup, there should be one every month. “Contestants” come and go. It’s understandable if you are not able to play every month, sometimes life gets in the way. Usually we’ll try to promote the start of a new challenge amongst other popular threads and on the main page when a new month is getting ready to start.

Day 30: One Month To Go

Lee Morgan Sextet - Volume 2 (Blue Note, 1957 First Mono Pressing)

Like most people, 2020 has been a crappy year for me. However, one of the few highlight was picking up this first mono pressing of Lee Morgan's 'Vol 2'. Its an album I have had on my radar for quite some time but one which I never expected to actually own. I have been playing it regularly since I picked it up and its certainly a pick-me-up.

Big thanks to @D Jilla for this months fantastic selections, its been super fun!
