30) Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot [indie rock]
It's a record that recalls feelings of romance, hardship, and loneliness all in one. Escapism through drinking, a (forced) hobby, one-night stands, and trying to be a different person and the frustration that follows. A beautiful outro in "Reservations" where one could say it is easier to dance around one's feelings and be noncommunicative rather than be truthful to someone to their face. A very beautifully written project.
29) Bark Psychosis - Hex [post-rock, ambient]
A haunting, dystopian endeavor, just like the surreal album art implies. The backdrop of this record unites ambience, shimmering guitars, and even some jazzy moments to form post-rock perfection unlike any other. The days surrounding the December Solstice are a fantastic time to listen to this record!
28) Janelle Monae - The Archandroid [experimental R&B, art pop]
Remarkable that Janelle was only 24 when she completed her ambitious debut here. The variety of genres that compliment the central R&B focus is tantalizing, along with her elegant vocal performances. I don't think she's made a project to this degree of ambitiousness since, but she is wholly capable.
27) John Coltrane - My Favorite Things [modal jazz]
Perhaps not the popular pick, but this one remains my favorite of the legendary 'Trane. There's a risque, yet forlorn aura to all four of the cuts here. Coltrane's third solo on the self-titled Christmas classic captivates to this day.
26) Tears For Fears - Songs From the Big Chair [synthpop, new wave]
Synthpop different from others in the genre and era. It includes the grossly underrated "The Working Hour," a combination of jazz, bright keys, and a new wave influence to make for a dystopian, busy instrumental backing. There is undoubtedly imagery akin to Nineteen Eighty-Four, seeing that Songs... was released one year after the title of the aforementioned novel. A brooding musical setting, yet dazzling.

I've kind of grown to really dislike the edited pictures I've been using for my countdown, but for consistency's sake I feel compelled to keep using them. Sorry if they're an eyesore to anyone else lolol I wanted to do something cool for my countdown but a graphic designer I am not
