Toronto Weird Boys

Hey Weird Boys, Sorry to interrupt you guys setting garbage truck fires, but are any of you planning on sticking with VMP with the price hike? I’ve been on a 3 Month plan since 2016, although I’ve take some months off, but I’m trying to decide the best course of action: Drop VMP and spend elsewhere Online (not really anywhere local up here) or switch to a 6 month plan with very few add-ons. Curious if what other Canadians are doing. Thanks and Cheers!

Due to the complete lack of any other options, and the fact that I too am on the 3 month plan, I figured I might do the 6 month and save a couple bucks a month. But then I'm obviously done at that point because I'm not paying the new price. I would consider a year and save like 7 dollars a month but I'm a little concerned with locking in for that long when they seem to be unsure of what they're doing going forward... or rather I'M unsure of what they're doing...

Similar to @Mather . I am up at the end of September so I am in for Spiritualized. I have not seen the bridge offer but if it is the deal that other internationals have posted then it is only an increase of a few bucks. Assuming that comes through then VMP needs to announce the ROTM from Essentials for the rest of the year and 2 of the 3 best be heavy hitters for me.

For the price increase I think they should announce all 3 streams but they will probably only do Essentials. I do expect a jazz biggie before the end of the year, maybe Herbie Hancock related to coincide with the ill-fated Anthology.

Haven't been a member since maybe a month after they closed the forum but the price hike has definitely killed any chance of subscribing again. I've cut way back on buying this year anyway, so I probably wouldn't resub regardless, though I might try to pick up Spiritualized second-hand down the road, depending on reviews.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it's the 6 month bridge offer or nothing for me. The bridge offer just feels like postponing the inevitable. Knowing what the next 3 months of Classics holds would help decide on whether to renew or not. This year has been very hit or miss for Classics. And I just pre-ordered 3 Tone Poets on Amazon for ~$100 CDN, so that might have to be the way to scratch the jazz itch (for cheaper and higher quality) going forward.

And FWIW, I dug out my old Spiritualized - Ladies & Gentlemen... CD, man that album is so great. I had kinda forgotten. On the fence about whether I need it on vinyl as well or not though.

Hey Hosers.

I was curious where do you all get your outer sleeves? I use to get mine from Groove Vinyl in Winnipeg, but they appear to be out of stock on most things and didn't respond to an email I sent. Not sure if they've closed down or what.

Anyway, just curious what you all use. I've heard good things about Sleeve City, but shipping is a little cost prohibitive to Canada.

Thanks!

Since I can't buy anything in person I ordered some from Jeff B. Just used the first ones last week and they seem fine. I think they were called Groove Vinyl.

I hopped on a great deal from Hudson Hi-Fi in the US for 500 sleeves for $35 USD and shipped them to my in-laws. Not sure when I'll actually get them here but then I hope never to have to buy them again.

Edit: nevermind, that was inners.

Thanks Weird Boys. I ordered sleeves (and the Petty Wildflowers reissue for free shipping) from the Evil Empire.

I hate myself a little bit for supporting Bezos, but my plastic music discs and cardboard covers needs to be covered in another layer of plastic.

I went over this a while back on here but I'm like poring over food ingredients and buying eco friendly mattresses made from tree sap while my livingroom is filled to the brim with petroleum discs that are sheathed in polypropylene sleeves and then placed into another polypropylene sleeve. It's madness.

LOL. Yeah, I'm the shame of my house.

We've gone plant based (with free range fish and game) and we grow lots of our own vegetables. We just got solar panels for the house and I upgraded our windows to triple pane. My wife has a hybrid car. My daughter is on a youth environmental advisory council.

Meanwhile, I have a Kallax wall of vinyl. And drive an F150. (although I do bike most of the summer).

You do want you can and hope we leave it a little bit better than we found it.

Haha yep. Actually I'm curious about the solar panels. What sort of outlay is there on those? Last I looked it was like $50,000 at least...

Funny I was just going to ask about that. I think my current place is not set up for it (lots of trees and a roof facing East and West) but it is something I want to try with our next place. Either that or just buy a Tesla and feel morally superior ;)

Don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but it was ~$16k up front for the whole package including installation.
But then there is ~$5k in rebates, so it's ~$11k net cost.

That was for 16 panels producing ~4500 kWh in the first year. They should produce enough to power the house in summer months where we have 20+ hours of sun, but basically zero production in the winter, cause it's dark AF up here. With the combined savings on the hydro bill and export back to the grid, it should take 11-12 years to pay for itself.

If we've got a company doing it up here in the north, you all in Ontario must have several.
