Sutherland Club House

So...theoretically.....if uh my friend were to maybe buy a 20/20....is there anything to look out for in terms of pairing with a TT/amp/speakers? My "friend" has a Rotel RA-1570 amp right now and a Vinyl Nirvana Thorens with Grado Gold 3 cart. He has some KEF 101 reference speakers hooked up to the system right now but has KEF R300s he would likely swap back in...

My friend says thanks in advance!

Your friend might get in trouble if he pairs a 20/20 with a boombox, especially if he hits the turbo bass in an old folks home!

More seriously, don't hook it up to the phono input of your Rotel. Use an aux or something.

Right--I know THAT much haha. I'd be curious to see how big of an upgrade it might be over what my "friend" already has in the LX-LPS preamp. But he would theoretically move the LX-LPS preamp to his other turntable set up since that one has a shit preamp right now...all theoretical of course!

The LX-LPS is a really solid little unit, but there is no comparison.

I had a feeling based on price tag and reviews that the difference is huge. I think since there’s always talk about the importance of your different separates playing nice together, in the back of my mind I’m always somewhat worried about doing a huge upgrade on one aspect of my chain and not getting the most out of it because of the other parts of the chain. I think eventually I wanna get some Zus as speakers but don’t really have a great spot for them right now in my apartment so in the meantime I’ll upgrade other parts of my system

I would say if you have a long term goal, build according to that goal, don't waste money on the "in the mean time" gear, even if it doesn't play perfectly well with whatever, you need to keep in mind where you're headed as time goes by..........just my opinion ;)

Good advice. Thanks! Since I currently have two setups (office and living room), whenever I upgrade stuff from one setup (like if I buy the 20/20 while I already have the LX-LPS), the older gear typically heads to the secondary setup that I use less frequently. But I think largely, my goals now are to save up to get to that end game setup instead of taking ministeps. I was debating going for the Insight to save money but I think I'd rather just wait longer and go big with the 20/20.

I love my Insight, but should have help out for at least the 20/20, at this point the only jump I deem worthwhile would be the DUO and that's a hard $$ pill to swallow.

It’s actually less expensive in the long run to buy “forever” components than to make intermediate steps.

Makes sense! And I can be patient enough to save up to treat myself to bigger upgrades at this point. I don't plan on buying any other intermediate steps. Everything else I bought so far was done with the plan to move it to my secondary setup eventually!
