Vinyl Me Please Classics

They kinda killed it with Essentials this year. BVSC, Spiritualized, Outkast, Erykah Badu, and Billie Holiday to close out the year is a pretty great run.

The Hawkins does sound muddy on Spotify, hopefully it comes to life a bit more with a good mastering on vinyl. I was about to pick up the Speakers Corner Everything is Everything, guess I'll have to wait till December (gladly). I love the album choice, but would've been better to do one that didn't have a readily available Kevin Gray AAA cut.

I had never listened to Everything is Everything until an hour ago. Can't wait to get it. I'm as much of a Stax fanboy as Storf, but this goes to show how much great soul music they've left on the table for the past few years.

Absolutely. The Ghetto is such a jam. It would be nice if they did an exclusive of Live as well. But yeah, hopefully we are off of the Stax train a bit.

Well, disappointing that they are doing The Hawk Flies High when there are plenty of other solid Bean records to do from late in his career. I mean, what is this, the MoFi reissue reissue campaign? What's next, Milt Jackson's Invitation? Art Pepper's The Way It Was!?

Ah technically that's right. One of those weird things where you can live in part of St Louis but live in Illinois, or live in part of Kansas City and live in Kansas not Missouri.
Sort of, but not really. I lived in STL in Grad School. Alton is still about 30+ minutes away. It's not like it's Sauget or East St. Louis, which are right there across the River.

He grew up in East St. Louis if i'm not mistaken. that's where the Miles Davis house is anyway.

That mono promo has to be a fold right? 1970? I’m assuming it’s just the perpetual VMP fuckup.
Hard to say, hopefully they cover that thoroughly in the write-up, but there's always the chance they used the wrong label, it's VMP after all.

1970 isn't too late for a dedicated mono mix, and neither the label or the cover in the mockup show usual stereo markings, but I am just wildly guessing.

If it were a dedicated mono mix, awesome. If not, I see no reason the SC Grey needs anything further.

The cat numbers seem to be unique to this. I don't see anything on Discogs that matches them at least. They are similar to the Rhino CD cat numbers, but those weren't pictured on the cover.

FWIW, Spotify lists it as mono.

Is Dreams still available through LITA? I’ve never ordered from them so I don’t know what they mean by “backorder.” Is that like VMP’s “Waitlist Me, Please” (may get repressed if enough people want it) or just a matter of waiting longer?

I have this pressing of Dreams from a blind buy (didn't indicate which pressing it was) for $12 from Deep Discount's ebay account earlier this year. I'm probably in for the VMP version to compare. I'm still hoping to find an original pressing for reasonable money, but that's unlikely so I'd like to see pressing details on the VMP.

I'm out on the other 2. The Hawkins just isn't my kind of jazz, and I already have an original pressing of the Donnie in amazing condition. Dreams & Everything Is Everything are amazing picks though. I highly recommend them!

I've been listening to dreams and it is fantastic! Cant wait for this one.
