Absolutely. We look after or have access to the archives of a number of notable British jazz players, including Ray Russell, Ron Mathewson, Spike Wells, Trevor Watts, Jon Hiseman/Barbara Thompson and Neil Ardley. We also look after several very large collectors archives as well. So our modus operandi is to get as many of the unreleased recordings in these collections (and there are a LOT!) out onto the market. The Michael Garrick recording comes from the collection of Ernie Garside, who used to run Club 43 in Manchester during the 1960s and recorded every performance that took place there. The Harriott album comes from the archives of Ron Mathewson and Spike Wells.
Thanks! These are really good news. I must admit that, except the recent Rendell/Carr reissues, I don't know a lot about British jazz. By the way, is there a way to buy The Ray Russell Quartet* – Spontaneous Event - Live Vol. 1: 1967-69 and who distributes your records in France?

I can't help with distribution (maybe Modulor?) but I can suggest a few shops if you want to deal directly with them (Souffle Continu, Betino's, Superfly and Balades Sonores in Paris, Quelque Part Records in Lille, SOFA Records in Lyon).

Ooooh I didnt realise that the number available was the overall figure. I managed to jump in and order the Chronology: Live 1968-69 by Joe Harriott, so theres just 1 more left now! I have sent you a message over bandcamp about the option of shipping the 2 items as one, no worries if its not possible though.

Fantastic, I have read a handful of these but always like seeing others to add to my list. I realised that I have asked for suggestions a few times here without ever showing what I actually have, so heres a few photos. I have read most of these, but a handful are in my to-read pile. I burn through books at the best of times, but working from home and the lockdown has seen me get through a crazy amount.

Ah no worries then. I always annoy myself when I place multiple separate orders from the same store and try to cut it down to single orders when possible. Its annoying for everyone, the seller, postman, environment.....

I sometimes ask too when records are released around the same time (more recently those WRWTFWW jazz reissues).
Don't know if any of you guys love this album as much as I do but after going through 2 used copies that sounded like garbage I've decided to spring for the Analog Spark pressing of this one and it looks like there is only 5 copies of it left for those who are interested in nabbing it! I just order Art Taylor's book of interviews this morning. I feel like that one has to be good. I wish Down Beat would I put out collections of their interviews over the years like those Record Reviews hardcovers. Or at least make more of them available online.
Didn't know that Horace Silver book existed. Gotta get that one. Is it good?
I've heard that Vinyl Detective graphic novel series is great.

I wish the same! There's a UK publication called Jazzwise which features a guest article each month written with Val Wilmer (accompanied by her photographs). They are always my highlight of the magazine and I always wish they would release them as a set. Its quite a pricey magazine and I rarely get it because of that.
The Horace Silver is one which I had on my list for a while. I tend to get to the point where I could do with some more books then buy a load at once. I usually hit ebay and buy the cheapest ones from my list. The Horace Silver popped up for a couple of quid so it made the cut. I haven't read it yet but have flicked though, and it looks like it will be great.
The Vinyl Detectives are certainly a fun read if you take it light-heartedly. I found the first one cheap then ended up hunting down the other 2 (there's actually a 4th which was recently released). The author is a jazz record collector and the way he builds the main character is something I think all of us here could relate to, all the little nuances of collecting etc. Its also set in London so I relate to a lot of places they visit.
I would say that one of my favourites is likely to be the Art Pepper biography. Its a real brick of a book but so interesting and he certainly doesnt hold back on any of the details. Much of it is removed from music, but it builds the narrative up to the point that when it does talk about key sessions you have a much better understanding of the struggles etc.
