With all due respect, if you’re not American I am absolutely puzzled by how you feel the need to defend or comment at all on the state of police and racial affairs in the United States. We have enough ignoramus spewing vitriol as it is in our borders about how property is more important than people and that MLK marched peacefully yada yada yada. MLK marched peacefully and his protests got absolutely brutalized. Yes he was a big factor in getting the civil rights act passed but we are still dealing with what he was fighting against today in 2020, so I’m not sure why people leverage MLKs tactics as the way to go. These people are fucking angry, they’re scared, the feel like they have no fighting chance to create the life they see glorified in every TV show, Instagram post and advertisement. We have no right to tell them how to protest when our country and it’s establishments have shown them time and time again that there IS no right way to protest. We need to educate ourselves on their plight and lend our privilege to them where possible, and we need to get our young people (myself and others) educated on how to make this corrupt shit show of a government work for us.

I thought it was a pretty reasonable response. Racism and police brutality go where they please, I’m not sure why discussions about it shouldn’t as well. And it’s not like these threads rigidly stay on topic at the best of times. I guess hot dogs are a little easier to digest than difficult conversations about the state of the world.

The genesis of the topic at hand came about because a valid point was being made about VMP making zero statements in support of protestors. It was a valid thing to post in the VMP general thread... and an important one.
The response of people getting bent out of shape about having to read it I personally don't understand. One could argue that you are living in a moment where exposing yourself and thinking about these things is vital... but I get why that feels burdensome.
The unwillingness to take on these types of minor burdens by parts of our society is part of the reason we find ourselves where we our today.

@Gavaxeman I will confess that I've been wrestling with the questions you raise too. I'm not very sympathetic to the plight of police right now, but I'm a little stuck on what a better alternative is. The fact is, we will still have people who abuse their spouses, molest children, rape women, murder, commit hate crimes, drink and endanger the lives of others from behind the wheel, etc. A career in public safety should be a noble vocation. And I acknowledge that lots of police departments save and protect plenty of civilians from scary circumstances on a daily basis. The problem (aside from the separate beast of an unjust prison system and inequal prosecution of the law along racial/socioeconomic lines) is that those same police are just as likely to use deadly force on a black person and/or protect their colleagues who do as they are to protect those people from harm..
People want to abolish the police; I think it's pretty clear that our society requires some form of law enforcement, but I don't see how this can be it.

I emailed CS and 20 minutes later got a reply from them to say that as it had been ordered at the same time as the Khruangbin pre-order they were being delayed until the pre-order was available.
