Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

If my kid is ever sitting on 10k, while living in my house, but spending it all on clothes and vinyl... I don't know.

Maybe, I'd just ask what he's listening to, to be honest. I like having him around.

That's Australian money, though, right? So, that's under 7k US? From how it sounds, that's almost enough to ship an album to you from the States.

I've long run out of space, myself. 16 Kallax squares... you at about 800 records? I'm trying to guess how many jelly beans are in the jar.
Yeah, I’m a bit conflicted because I want to move out but still want to continuously travelled. I had one trip shortened this year (Indonesia) and had a trip cancelled (Spain/Italy/Greece). I’m going to New Zealand at the end of this year, but it’s like, I live with my parents because it means I can easily save and always travel. But.......can’t do that right now. I want to move out but......I can’t bring all my records with me and I’m someone who really likes home as well! I dunno what to do! I’m just gonna travel to New Zealand and then move out. Too bad about a Europe 2021 trip! ⚖️

AUD$10,000, so yeah, more like USD$6,500. I recently purchased something in the U.S. via PayPal is its 61c USD for AUD $1! That’s why an add-on sub is AUD$40 for me because after tax, when you convert USD$23 + tax + a small bank fee, it comes to that amount! 🧾✍️🙇‍♂️

Yeah, I’d say I’ve got like 800 records! Gonna to not buy any vinyl much from now on though! It’s too much money for real! 🙈😵

First off, "costumers" is one of my favorite typos ever.
I never know if it's customer or costumer lol. The perks of English being your second language.

Which "side" would anyone expect them to take?
The same side VMP isn't taking. I get what you're saying, and LITA is obviously nothing like Nike, but they could stay silent like so many other small-medium companies, and they chose not to.

I've been thinking about this and I know it's sometimes difficult with sudden interesting pre-orders or unannounced hot VMP exclusives coming up, but maybe a good way to follow through on this would be to kind of curate your own "record of the week", a record you feel is really good and that really is on 🔥and clicks 💯 % when you listen to it. 🙂 And just to get those.
I’m strong and you know what? I’m just gonna not buy any records really from the 1st of June, 2020! Like I’ve got around 50-60 records that I’ve purchased that will eventually ship/arrive to me! Also, I’m getting the Herbie Hancock Anthology Box Set when that will come out soon! 🧞‍♂️

So yeah, literally no more from me! I’m not sure if I should get JPEGAMFIA’s All My Heroes Are Cornballs on the current standard 2LP, but I’ve decided I’m not gonna get it! The Laura Marling SIGNED Marble exclusive variant will be my last vinyl purchase in a long time, outside of VMP! Makes me feel great thinking about that ☺️

Oh. It's customer. I would imagine that a "costumer" would be someone that provides others with and/or dresses them in costumes.

If you feel great thinking about that, then that's the right way.👍 Especially with so many preorders coming up to you anyway. No way saying you shouldn't buy any vinyl anymore, but sometimes it's healthy to just have a break and cutting down on it for some time. I've also bought significantly less vinyl in the second half of 2019 due to several travels and still having so many records that I wanted to listen to more.

Now I'm buying a lot more vinyl again and it feels good too. It always depends on the situation and sometimes it's good taking some break and a step back, to enjoy the records we already have, and to return later, especially in your case as you still will get some VMP, the Herbie box and many records already ordered. I know you love trips and food as well, so sometimes it's necessary to find some balance in purchases. 🙂

Not really a partisan issue, really. Especially, since we're discussing Minnesota and Klobuchar, but that's a can of worms nobody wants me opening up in this thread. Then again, you're probably right.

Still, I imagine it more like, "Oops. I spilled a little merlot on my dress shirt. Hey, could someone change this? Franklin and Bash is coming on."
I agree with ya and don’t want to get into that can of worms either. Was just referencing the time MJ wouldn’t speak out on some social injustices/endorse a political candidate and when asked why, that was his response (which he now says was a light-hearted joke).

the truth is VMP is happy to support LGBTQ pride, or women’s day, or any other number of holidays or causes when they can turn being an ally into sales, but are silent when something else happens. They aren’t the only company to do so though by any stretch. Even that Whitney Houston box set “promo” the other week was real cringy to me. “Buy this $75 box set of 2 records and we will donate an undisclosed amount of money to COVID-related charities”.

Totally agree. I guess my view is just that I don't know if it's even something they think about. Rather than it being an obstacle that they have to weigh taking a stand on for fear of possibly alienating anyone, I wonder if it even registers as something they should addressing at all if they don't see an opportunity for PR and dollar signs

Aww Nathan. How old are you that you’ve collected over 800 records? If we assume each record has an average play time of 55 mins you could spin vinyl for 2 hours every day and still not get through them all in a year. And that’s without ever repeating an album you really want to hear.. or weeks ”lost” to trips in New Zealand/Indonesia etc..

I know you’re a younger guy and more interested in living in the here and now but, please, think really hard before you take the second 10k offering out of your Super. That $10k by the time you contemplate retirement compounds to ~$40-70k ideally. It’s not our fault that we don’t understand this stuff, there’s next to zero financial education in school. Travel, buy what you want etc.. if that’s what you want to do but don‘t take it from your future self’s retirement fund 🙏❤️

I’m 25 years old! First signed up to VMP in 2017 and started collecting records that year too! ☺️

Wow, I never really thought of it like that! So true, there’s no way I would be able to listen to everything in one year! 😱🙉🤯

I’m going to take the second offering out, which is $6,000 as that’s all I’ve got left now! I understand that your Super does increase if money stays in there. But I’ll be 60+ years old by the time I can access that! It’s not worth it for me to be comfortable at 60+ at the expense of having more fun/splurging right now with my Super money. Also, I feel really fortunate to have everything I got - access to amazing water, food, comfort of a house, free from war, easy opportunity to earn a lot of money, lovely parents and siblings, music, etc! 🙏🙏🙌🙌🍎🍌🍓🍋🍉🥝🍆🥑🥦🍳🍔🥙🥔🥗🌮🍜🍛👨‍👩‍👦‍👦🥁🎹🎷🎸🎻

So for me, it’s like, why do I want my money to increase, only for me to access it when I’m old. And who knows if I’ll be alive then! I’m OK in my mindset if I have to suffer when I’m 60+ financially. I’m in Australia and I’m healthy and will still be working! Like, we’re all so lucky! 💯

I could go on but I guess you can kind of see where I’m coming from. We don’t know what the future is, so why not have fun and live it up! For that reason, I’m definitely taking the rest of my super out! Gonna enjoy life, work less for a bit and travel more and hopefully love out of home soon (even though I can move out now but I just love home)! 🙊

Great advice, but getting $6,000 is so much money and I can do so much with that! In the end, I just want to be happy. I don’t want to think about my future. It’s not worth it for me as I don’t really create the fear in my head about the future. I’m a survivor like that. Whenever I travelled to the Middle East, Himialayas, Africa, South America etc, I was faced with troubles but I just always find a way! 🌝🌈🎗💪

A woman at my work who is around 45-50 years old took out her super and she has nothing left. But she purchased a new car and she was so happy just chilling in it with the windows down smoking! And she was just loving life. And she’s like 50 years old, isn’t rich but is so happy and she loves laughing and is so sweet! 😇🚓

YOLO, so why not be silly, have fun and go with your instincts whilst we are lucky! 😜

I think someone needs to send Nathan a piece/documentary on old age poverty, the reality of it is so grim.

Also 800 records in 3 years! 😮😮😮😮😮

That’s absurd, it’s taken me just over 7 years to get to roughly that point, I have a good job and I think I spend far too much, you be insane.

I’m gonna stop! From tomorrow, the 1st of June, 2020, I’ll be purchasing only 5 records a month maximum! This includes the few ROTM’s I get from VMP! 🌀🆘

I am aware of old age poverty! But I literally don’t know if I’m gonna live until I’m 50 years old! I’m not scared of that though, but it’s like, who knows what my future is! So far, life has been awesome and I’m very lucky! 🍀

But yeah, I need to stop buying so much vinyl! Luckily I have good self-control (I think I do 😂). I’m gonna change it up I think and enjoy vinyl but focus far less on it!

Yeah I mean you don’t realise you how stupid that sounds. You sound like you lead a relatively healthy, if faddish and trend driven, lifestyle. The likelihood is that unless you are in an accident or have an unfortunate illness that you’ll live well into retirement. The biggest factors in old age poverty are accommodation costs and lack of private pension funding and having to rely on the state benefit. You live at home and I doubt you’ve saved any money towards a potential deposit or even considered entering the property market and you’ve plundered your pension. It’s your life, do what you want if it makes you happy but don’t try to justify it as anything sensible, it’s a lack of impulse control.

Mmmmmm it kind of does bad/stupid with me not saving up! Like I know I’ll have to go into a share house if I move out but I’ll get one with ensuite and it means I’ll just have less leisure spending money which I’m fine with. If it’s a struggle, I just gotta deal with it - but I know I’ll still be happy and fine! 😇

Like of course I’d prefer to rent and have a small place to myself or to have a house, but I don’t want to work too much and have little to no spending money! Like I’m not a hard working person. I’m a bit lazy 🙈

And yeah, I think I’ll live well into retirement so that’s why I think I might still be working when I’m like 70 years old! I’m gonna work when I’m old! I’m gonna show off my positive, fun, cheeky, cool, vibrant personality and I think I’ll be good! Don’t want to sound conceited but I think my personality will help in the future if there’s job stability issues!

I have some magic beans for sale if you want to invest that $6000 wisely....

But seriously don’t steal from your future. A seriously bad idea. I worry for you reading this @NathanRicaud, you are getting one free album a month. Enjoy that. Enjoy those you have already purchased and when your financial situation is different then get more. Life can have cruel twists at times and you don’t know when that money might be more useful for yourself and your family. If jumping into a $400+ Herbie Hancock boxset is a necessity to you then curb other spending until it is announced. The advice from others on here is unanimous and comes from people who care about your future.

It’s a really big collection! I have so much vinyl! 1 squares are filled with vinyl! I’ve got 19 squares but if I was to consolidate it all, it would be like 16 squares! 🗳🗳🗳
So yeah, I got a pretty huge collection! 😜

The price is high for 1 track! It’s a hard call! 🥴
Question for all: Do you own more "One Great Track" lp's, or more "FOMO Records I Should Have Never Bought Because They Suck" lp's? I have a lot of the latter.
