Day 19: AOTY Grammy

Bruno Mars - 24k Magic

The 2018 AOTY Grammy winner, up against some stiff-ass competition from “DAMN.”, “Melodrama”, “Awaken, My Love!” & “4:44” (all but the last I have on vinyl)! And while it’s the least great of the nominees, it’s still a great throwback to the sound of new jack swing & 80s R&B and a lot of fun to listen to!

Day 19 - Grammys

there’s been some disdain for the Grammys today. I get that they don’t always pick the album we think they should. That’s not really what they’re about anyhow. They are a celebration of music. It’s put on by the music industry and voted for by the industry so of course sales goes into it a bit. Sometimes sales = great. Sometimes not. I do like the spectacle though.

plus they can be absurd; like in 2017, when one of the architects of Stax put out an adult rnb masterpiece and won best Americana album...🥴

Queen - A Night at the Opera

I know someone beat me to this but this is MY challenge thread and the rules dont apply to me

Freddie was the first person who I really saw myself in and truly made me feel comfortable in my skin and with who I am. I'll forever be in his debt for the amount of confidence he helped me nurture

Day 19 - And the Grammy for Album of the Year goes to...

Henry Mancini - Music From Peter Gunn

Henry beat out the likes of ella Fitzgerald and frank Sinatra (who was nominated for AOTY off 2 albums this year) to become the first AOTY Grammy winner

I know the Grammys arent everyone's cup of tea and even I have huge problems with them, but I just love them. They are just so arbitrary, ridiculous and down right foolish but that just all adds up to something I can't help but to love and devote countless days reading up on and studying.

I currently own on vinyl 50 out of the 62 albums that have won the Grammy for AOTY and its definitely my biggest Vinyl mission to finish that collection. Some of them are super expensive and some haven't been pressed so its getting hard but I will not lose hope!

DAY 20 - 2020 HYPE
Glass Animals - How to Be a Human Being
A friend I made freshman year of college put me onto this album, it was one of his absolute favorite albums even though it had only come out fairly recently and while I don't love it as much as he did, I do think it's a pretty fantastic album. There's also the elephant in the room that this is the first record I ever got from the Pizza Place before I was even a member, and when I got it from them I didn't even realize they were a record club or anything, I just thought it was an indie variant they were selling like Newbury or something. Funny how things come full circle like that 😛

They have a new album coming in July and the singles seem pretty promising. I don't expect to light my world on fire or anything but I'm expecting something solid, although I highly doubt they'll try to be as ambitious as they were on this one.

Day 20 - AOTY 2020

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

I think @gaporter perfectly captured how I feel about this album on day 17

DAY 17 - POPTART DAY!
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
Going with an obvious choice for this one, but Future Nostalgia is seriously so great. Dua Lipa wasn't really on my radar at the beginning of this year but I'm glad I started paying attention because this is AOTY material. Each song feels so well-crafted and at 37 minutes, it's the perfect length. There's not one song I'd take off and there's at least one moment in every track that just makes me freak out every time I hear it. The production is immaculate, the songwriting is incredible and Dua Lipa herself… just wow 🤩 her voice makes these songs come alive and pop (hehe) with so much energy and emotion. I would highlight some standout tracks but… every song is so great. It's hard to pick just a few. I can't recommend this record enough, I love it to pieces.

Day 20: 2020 hype! (2020 album or an artist who is set to release an album this year)

Lana del Rey "Born to die"

She got an album probably called "White hot forever" coming for this year and I'm sure it'll be amazing as all her records are. I love how productive she is too. 👌 Are you aware that she already had recorded hundreds of songs before "Video Games" that float all over YouTube etc? 💗

Day 20 - 2020 hype! (2020 album or an artist who is set to release an album this year)

Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 2

I had planned on posting this one even before the release date of RTJ4 was annouced and pre-orders went live last week. This was my most anticipated album of 2019 and now also 2020 haha Now that I know it's just a few weeks away I'm that much more excited for it. Ready for that heat!🔥🔥🔥
