New Music Friday!

Yes! This is the first time in a while that a highly hyped album lived up to expectations immediately on first listen for me.

Also, you're enjoying new music again?!?! Happy to hear :)

A few new releases here and there. Caribou, porridge iforgettherest, dua, yumi zouma are the ones that have caught my attention. And all of the N&G AOTMS. :)

Basia Bulat's newest is superb! Her voice is really stunning in this. She's really matured. Some of her past albums have been misses for me. This is not. If you had let Basia fall by the wayside for a bit, pick her back up with this album.

Dua Lipa's is 🔥. It quite possibly could be the pop AOTY. And yes, I do think the comparisons to Emotion are absolutely appropriate.

Lilly Hiatt's was … fine. I mean, I listened to it in the same day I listened to Basia and Dua, so I feel like it didn't really have a chance. I'll listen again. Her last album was a bit of a grower for me and I ended up loving it (and almost picking it as my N&G AOTM instead of Nicole Atkins) so perhaps this one is too.

Shallou has a new one out! @blissfullychaotic - you know I loved playing Shallou during our early morning chill sessions. I haven't listened to this one yet but I will soon and am looking forward to it.

I completely overlooked this thread.

But yes, I have been listening to Dua Lipa's new record repeatedly at work and I'm just obsessed. I don't remember being as enamored with a pop release this much in recent memory.

I'll try out some of the others that people are liking on this thread!

Seems to be pretty polarizing amongst the PJ crowd. I thought it was fine - not great but good. I liked some of the experimentation (I hated Dance of the Clairvoyants as the lead single but it has grown on me in the context of the album).

i really like "dance of the clairvoyants" - if they'd done the whole album in that more talking heads-y, bowie-y style I would probably prefer it

i certainly would've ditched "superblood wolfmoon" which i think is a massive clunker

I plan on checking out these today:

Thundercat - It Is What It Is
Born Ruffians - JUICE
Empress Of - I'm Your Empress Of
M. Ward - Migration Stories
Caleb Caudle - Better Hurry Up
Ashley McBryde - Never Will

After listening to Hard to Forget in the NPR playlist I'm surprisingly planning on checking out the Sam Hunt album too. That song has a cool sample of There Stands the Glass by Webb Pierce that caught my ear.

I don’t know if it’s the train wreck of my day or the addition of an Orchestra but I am not feeling this live Cory Wong album.
