I don't know why I always thought you were a Joshua Tree guy. You're rankings wouldn't be far off from mine except for SOE being dead last.

Mine change often as well but here is today's version. Achtung usually stays at number 1 and their first 3 albums are usually at the bottom. There is not many artists with this diverse a sound that I can say I still like every album they put out.

Achtung baby
All That You Can’t Leave Behind
No Line on the horizon
Pop
Rattle and Hum
Zooropa
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb

Fascinating list. Interesting to see someone like October more than War & Boy.

The band has said they seem to release albums in trilogies so here are my favorite U2 trilogies also:

Achtung Baby (1991)
Zooropa (1993)
Pop (1997)

All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000)
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004)
No Line on the Horizon (2009)

The Unforgettable Fire (1984)
The Joshua Tree (1987)
Rattle and Hum (1988)

Songs of Innocence (2014)
Songs of Experience (2017)

Boy (1980)
October (1981)
War (1983)

My thinking is they do trilogies and when one is done they perfect the sound and focus the "era" . TBH that trilogy is on the bottom of my list and currently I've revisited October and it was more appealing. As you can see it is still my least favorite era for them.

And it is always amazing to me how, for a long time in music if not so much now, if you didn't have a great first or second album most bands were done. U2 had a very slow start to their popularity and went on to become huge.

They arrived at a time when bands were allowed to grow over at least 3~4 years, getting label support for albums and tours. If War did not hit it out, who knows what might have happened?

But I think the band did show promise from the beginning, with The Edge in particular creating some international buzz.

Colored versions up for pre-order:

Unforgettable Fire (Glad they made it closer to the album cover color, instead of the original marketing of "Red")

I will wait for Amazon, the initial posting prices have been great on there

Same. U2.com is always more and their store (Live Nation run) is the absolute worst with customer service and usually shipping delays.

Yeah Live Nation is terrible, I do wonder if their higher prices is to help pay the crew, if so, I wish they would say that as I know U2 works hard to pay the crew a decent wage
