Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I’m glad you’re going to try it out! I hope it’s a fun experiment and doesn’t feel like homework haha.

I should add that everything I posted is entirely subjective to what unlocked Radiohead’s music for me, but every fan is going to have different recommendations. I’m sure there are people who just like listening to it really quietly and reading along with the lyrics haha.

Yeah completely. They just have so many bloody great songs that everyone can have a different entry point. Hell The Bends is pretty much 12 singles in some ways. It was first hearing My Iron Lung when a friend lent me the 8 track EP (the days of swapping CDs for a week or so with your school mates) and then the whole of OK Computer when it came very soon afterwards that made me first sit up and pay attention!

This conversation prompted me to listen to In Rainbows on my way to work this morning. It’s still my favorite Radiohead album, Weird Fishes is such a jam. This tour was so great, too.

Did you not get the mega super hype of them in Germany at the time then? The music press in the Uk went absolutely insane on The Strokes and they were hyped beyond belief. I know the old NME used to love to pick totem band but I don’t think they ever hyped, or actually still hype in some ways, anyone as much as first few albums The Strokes. Their debut came out just before I went to uni, or maybe even in my first few weeks there, and they definitely felt like they were supposed to be the second coming at that time.

Personally, nah, not even close. If it’s indie/rock it’s probably Radiohead because they are innovative and good, traversed the entire period and also shift colossal amounts of units too.

Libertines were hyped more than The Strokes. The Strokes were better than them.

Weird Fishes is my all time favorite Radiohead song from the all time best Radiohead album, In Rainbows. (Kid A a very very close second).

Also this Bitte Orca pressing sounds incredible. Almost like hearing it for the first time. Can’t believe how much is lost, there is so much going on I never really heard before. I thought my turntable was being weird.

Did anyone else have noisy copies of The Soft Bulletin? I know I'm a few months late to the party, but both discs of mine were noisy. Really getting tired of doing the whole replacement game.
Yup. I'm on copy 3 and side 3 is noisy on all of them. Mainly second and third song. Most recent one only has a few pops on them so I'll probably just deal with it because I'm tired of assuming for replacements. But yes, it was definitely a problematic pressing, like everything that comes out of GZ.

Mine was alright! Did you clean yours? I've had a habit of cleaning new records lately because so many of them arrive dirty...

Argh. I've had such good luck with the Aretha one that I didn't even bother doing the research. My side 2 and 3 are both noisy, especially 3 on the side you refer to (audible non-fill BS for me). At least they do replacements easily, but still a headache.

Yeah I'd imagine they have a lot of copies of this one so just keep going till you get a good one. I might still get another, my most recent replacement is the best of the bunch so far... but still not really acceptable.

Wow, I actually got a good one of those right off the bat. I think. Now I'm scared. I went thru 7 TVOTR and never got a totally clean one however...

Guess it's all luck then! My TVOTR had just a trace of noise, only by the most anal standards for a few seconds so I never bothered seeking a new one out. My final OutKast was a frankenstein between three copies for cover and LPs, if they did a return and replace model I still would be without a good copy....

Man, just got another copy of Lord Willin’ in today (gifted my last coy to a member here, forgot who), and damn, I forgot how great this pressing sounded and how excellent the album is. Pleased to have it in my collection again.

I just wish they would have done Hell Hath No Fury as well as I avoid Get on Down releases!
