Fresh Grabs

Got the most infamous noise album of ALL TIME in the mail.

Merzbow - Pulse Demon

2nd pressing of 4 variants, this one being ltd. 100.
Originally released in '96. First pressed in 2018 in very limited quantities. Repressed a few months ago via Relapse Records in much more available quantities, plus with a new remaster and a bonus track. If you wanna know how the hell you remaster a harsh noise album, please don't ask me, cause I don't know either.
You can still order the standard black if you wish to subject yourself to this.

warning: seizure and tinnitus inducing music below

No offense, just curiousity: how is the process or the ritual when you decide to play this record? What do you do while it's playing? Are you drinking something, are you playing Candy Crush, are you reading the liner notes? (I'm guessing the things I do when I play a record that it's "music"). I find it so interesting, really.

Mr Bungle - Disco Volante

I’ve fallen off from all things Patton music a long time ago, but a good deal on this came up recently - this still holds up!

Boris - Feedbacker
Terry Riley, Don Cherry, Karl Berger - Live in Koln 1975
Sunn O))) - Domkirke

The new TMR reissue of Feedbacker sounds just ok, but I’ll take any reissue of Feedbacker tbh. Also that Koln bootleg was pressed cleaner than most new records I’ve gotten all year 😶

High Rise - High Rise II
Sunn O))) - Pyroclasts

Black Editions are amazing just for their PSF Records reissues alone, and they went all the way to remix and remaster High Rise II, packaging it with a thick, textured cardboard sleeve and an extra tape of demos. This would hit you hard if you love Les Rallizes Denudes or noise/psych rock bands like Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Men, Destruction Unit, Tonsstartbandht.

Also Sunn O))) dominating 2019 is something I cherish ❤❤❤ Pyroclasts is different from Life Metal and I appreciate both and Stephen O’Malley & Greg Anderson.

Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
Meitei - Kwaidan
Sachiko Kanenobu - Misora

Caved for that new Stereolab reissue when I first thought to wait for a good deal on the clear vinyl. All is good because this sounds amazing and I’m glad most of their classics are available again!

Kwaidan comes highly recommended if you dig The Caretaker, Jan Jalinek, Ben Frost, or if you’re simply willing to stretch out from your ambient comfort zone. Ghostly and unnerving at times.

LITA gets all the stars for keeping up their reissue campaign of beloved 70s/80s Japanese records. Misora is one I didn’t expect and it’ll warm up to you if you’re big on Vashti Bunyan or Linda Perhacs! Sachiko has a great story and LITA has packed more than enough reading content in its accompanying booklet to dig into.

This haul is absolute fire. Wish I could upvote twice for Meitei, Sunn O))) and Boris.

$230 plus priority shipping plus Ebay tax. I've had this routine for months where I'd check ebay constantly looking for this record. Lowest I'd seen an auction go in this half of the year was 280.

Thursday / Friday morning I checked just randomly, even tho I usually do it in the afternoons, and saw this as an auction / buy now. Only issues were 1 inch seam splits on the bottom and a really small corner ding. Auction started at 100. Buy at 230. I did not hesitate.

After passing on this record 3 years ago, I finally righted my wrongs and got a copy. All is right with the world.

Oh my days you did it, congrats dude I know how much you have been wanting this one!

R.E.M. - Monster
Mid-Air Thief - Crumbling

I went with the non-deluxe Monster. I would have liked to get a gatefold and extra write-up included with the deluxe version but I didn’t dig the alternate cover and would have never listened to remix LP.

Crumbling was my first exposure to Mid-Air Thief and I found the folktronica vibe to be right up my alley.

20191126_140355.jpgWhale #2 acquired this week thanks to the stupendously wonderful human being that is @EmeryRK who agreed to a trade for me in exchange for this awesome awesome record. He is also I might add steadfastly refusing to let me pay him for the shipping which was NOT CHEAP so please all of you help me make him let me pay him for the damn shipping!
Best guy ever, absolutely stoked to spin this. And along with this he also shipped a Turntable Lab LTD pressing of this:

That I bought from Cogs. I wouldn't call this a whale necessarily but it's another that I really wanted to strike off the list so that's 3 off this week. IT'S BEEN A GOOD ONE FOLKS.

Another Queens album acquired. 👌

Mixed feelings about this mini-haul. I was looking forward to the Ornette Coleman box set but when I opened it up the inner sleeves were covered in water stains or mould and the Volume 1 LP has the WORST dish warp I have ever seen, the photo below really doesnt do it justice....its bloody awful.

Ornette Coleman ‎– An Evening With Ornette Coleman (Polydor, 1967 first UK pressing)
The box is in top condition and includes the 12x12 booklet as well. Shame about one of the LP's being super warped.

The Curtis Counce Quintet ‎– Exploring The Future (Dootone Records, 1970 2nd pressing.)
The first pressing of this is super super rare, never pops up on discogs etc. This reissue is the first one after its 1958 pressing. A great group, with Harold Land on tenor sax.
