I really like the At the Montreux Jazz Festival album too. Honestly all the stuff he did in the 50’s and 60’s is worth a listen. I haven’t given much else a chance. The recommended ones are his milestones though.
Long story short: After writing back and forth (which took a long time already because answers came in slowly), I had placed a huge order which arrived with a lot of bumped corners and a few seam splits - not to mention shipping costs were steep.
I took a few pictures and sent them a message, kindly asking what to do - never received a single answer. I gave up after half a year. Worst thing is that I could’ve bought all those copies from other stores but I wanted to support them directly and wasn’t sure if everything would be available elsewhere...
So that was that.

I had a similar issue with BBE. Bought Takeo Moriyama - East Plants from them direct as it was a similar price to everywhere else and wanted the money to go direct to them. Waited for ages and emailed to request an update, never heard back. Sent a few more emails and never heard back. Ended up messaging their Instagram account and someone finally responded. Turns out they migrated their email but didnt update their website, so no one was getting my emails at all. To apologise they actually did send the record plus the Charles Mingus ‎– Jazz In Detroit / Strata Concert Gallery / 46 Selden box set which completely threw me off guard, that thing is worth 2-3 times the price of East Plants alone. So I guess they massively redeemed themselves with that one.
I’ll give it another shot - but it’s poor management if you prefer social media and not taking care about your emails...

That whole album is straight. Might be my favorite Wes Montgomery album.
I have a Japanese pressing of the album. Killer stuff!

So I saw Makaya McCraven and Rosie Turton last night. Holy moly what a night, that guy is absolutely INCREDIBLE live. Im 100% going to try and see him perform again the next time hes in London. Easily one of the best 'small' gigs I have been to in a long time!
In terms of vinyl, he had all his albums up for grabs (which I have anyway so didn't buy any of those) plus a few select ones from International Anthem, including Junius Paul's latest release 'Ism'. I would definitely of picked this up (Junius was on bass last night and killed it) but annoyingly it was cash only and in a complete amateur move I forgot to stop by the cash machine. I will pick it up at some point though (I dont even think its technically out yet?).

Both bands were great weren't they? Makaya absolutely rocked it. He must have been knackered after that set. That dude on the keys was awesome too. Nice venue too, first visit there but would 100% go back. You got better pix than I could, the lighting was great as a viewer but not great for my old crappy iPhone.

Thought you might of been there! It was a killer night, I must admit that I was confused by the initial listing and though Rosie was going to be playing WITH Makaya, so I was actually pleasantly surprised when it was her and her group that were the warm up. They certainly killed it last night, superb music throughout. Completely agree with you, he was literally giving it his all throughout, that drum solo on the second to last song was insanity, my arms would of fallen off at that point!! I actually got there a lot earlier than I thought I would so managed to settle myself at the front corner. It was my first time at the venue as well, really liked it!
Did you pick up any vinyl @Mr Moore?

No, I saw the records at the Angel Bat Dawid gig too and the only one I was missing/wanted was the Junius Paul one but it was £30. I don't know if they were selling the coloured one for that price but as much as I like to support artists by buying merch I can't justify nearly a tenner more than most UK retailers will be stocking this for.

Wow I didnt realise it was that price! I saw the Jaimie Branch was £20 (I've been meaning to pick that up) and assumed the others were. I really like the few sample tracks on Junius' bandcamp so I will likely pick up a few International Anthem records when Im next at a shop that sells them.
Have to keep reminding myself theres a few bits Im hoping to pick up this friday......need to sell a kidney at this rate to pay for it all!
Edit: How was the Angel Bat Dawid gig btw? It was a Kings Place right? I saw SEED Ensemble there and thought it was a great venue.

I’m sure this will have been shared before, but the latest release in the Spiritual Jazz series looks to be one of their best yet. Apparently it should be out anytime now ‘mid November’ and the track list is insane, moondog, Mal Waldron, Yusef Lateef, Idris Muhammad....

And another release. This is a bit of an oddity but something which seems pretty interesting. Its a collection, fully licensed from the Library of Congress, of Moondog's earliest recording, many of which are field recordings from his performances on the streets of New York as he busked.
I have been meaning to listen to some of his work a few times now but never got around to fully immersing in it. This could be a good one to start with.
Just a word of warning, especially to non USA folk, ignore the ebay listings that have this at £30+. Its available in most online stores for £19.99

Not sure it has been shared yet. Mr Bongo webshop is always a good place to discover new stuff. Inexpressible Infinity is the first album of Levitation Orchestra, band founded by trumpeter Axel Kaner-Lidstrom (Cykada) (paging @Mather as, IIRC, you love their album - @Mr Moore, @Captainfog @Selaws, @uvwxVinyl, @phramenma, @Poly-Rythmo you'll cetainly like it too ). I admit I checked this album due to the cover and thought it was some another old psyche-funk-rock record they found in some dusty crate... Oh and it's limited to 500 copies.

I ordered this last week and was going to post about it when it arrived. It's a fantastic record from what I've listened to on Spotify. Even involves some violin and harp (as well as vocals used as an instrument rather than singing words). It's a 13-piece band playing spiritual-ish jazz but quite raucous at times. It has a real ensemble feel about it.Not sure it has been shared yet. Mr Bongo webshop is always a good place to discover new stuff. Another one to look out for is French trumpeter Antoine Berjeaut, whose new record out next month is produced by Makaya McCraven, and features Junius Paul among others. The one song I heard so far sounds pretty tasty
