Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Licensed to Ill got rap into the ears of many more fans than other hip-hop albums of the time. I like it in a nostalgic and "place in time" kind of way, but I don't think of it as top-10 rap albums of all time. Love me some Rakim and EPMD, though. And of course, Run-DMC.

i never really listened to run DMC (i heard king of rock and walk this way from guitar hero aerosmith but not anything else).. they probably were amazing but i just never wanted to hear them

Yeah I get that. I mean I wouldnt be the biggest run dmc fan personally but Raising Hell is pretty great & significant in hiphop especially for the rock rap hybrid of walk this way so that's why I think storf would label it so important but who knows....Eamon - I Dont Want You Back incoming....

For their time, they were ahead of the game but it hasn't aged as well as the music that directly followed it, imho. I find PE, Rakim, De La, Paul's Boutique Beasties, etc. to still be very listenable whereas Run DMC and Licensed to Ill, while undisputed classics, just don't have the same listenability to me.

JJ Doom is back in stock. Pretty good album if you're a Doom fan.

yeah i was finding that i couldn't click with run DMC.. probs not gonna buy it

I also agree that most Run DMC is hard to swallow with contemporary ears. I think Raising Hell is the best listenability wise. If you like it, the OG record is super common and should run you like $12 for a VG+ copy cut at MASTERDISK, great sound. Not work $23 for what is certain to be sonically inferior.

If the VMP Rap album of the Month is Beastie Boys;l I wouldn't of used the "most important rap album" language/hint.

Feels weird to say the most important album in Rap music is a bunch of white dudes. And that's nothing against Beasties, just looks off.
That was kind of the elephant in the room and I’m glad someone said it.

I would imagine they were quoting someone who said that. Considering Chuck D said that exact thing about the Run DMC album, I think it's more likely Raising Hell.
