The NBA Thread

Of course the Cavs would be there šŸ˜„

While it does suck that we are not that good of a team, it is moment's like last night's game against the hapless Bulls that bring out the joy of the regular season. TT was playing with passion and that dunk by Sexton was absolutely ridiculous. I'm holding to my preseason prediction that we are an 7th/8th seed in the east if Love can stay healthy. The cavs just have to find some chemistry, which will come as the season develops. We may have a new coach and a rookie PG, but with what we are seeing right now, which is renewed passion in TT could be the difference we need to get back in the playoffs.

For those of you who missed it

The east is wide open. And it's fun to watch a young team especially on plays like that without all the drama surrounding things. Happy for the Cavs. I'm a big fan of KLove.

NBA fights are nothing more than glorified shoving matches, so noone wins those type of fights. Embiid is clearly in KATs head tho and theres no bigger win than that.
I remember watching a Wolves-Pistons game like 12 years ago and McDyess and KG got into a ā€œfightā€ - hopping around and swinging their arms like my 4 year oldā€™s dance moves. Itā€™s the first thing I think of whenever thereā€™s an nba fight ha.

Sure but when you act like a tough guy but the toughest thing you do is write some shit on social media, it just rings a little hollow for me. I sort of wish KAT had just decked him hah. Maybe we can lend Bobby Portis to the Wolves just for the next game they play the sixers??

Also the whole "2nd round of the playoffs" thing is pretty lame. I wouldn't talk so proudly about underachieving two years in a row in the playoffs...will be interesting to see how far they get this season though. They have a shot to get to the finals but if they get knocked out early again, I'm not sure how much shit Embiid can realistically talk.

I mean...Malice at the Palace is obviously the first thing I think of when an NBA fight is mentioned. It's why fighting has pretty much stopped in the NBA because the suspensions are really severe now. It's why I think Embiid will get suspended for a few games.

That loss two years ago to the depleted Boston team should still smart

Yeah that was insane. That Pacers team was a wrecking crew before that incident, too.

I dont see it as a tough guy act as much as I see it as trolling to get in guys heads. Hes never the one looking for a fight, he just talks so much shit that fights find him.

Also I dont know if losing to a better team in the playoffs is underachieving, especially last year when you lost to the Champs on a last second historic shot. Now if they go out in the 2nd round this year that would 100% be a disappointing underachievement

2017-18 Sixers opened the over/under at 42.5 wins, were bet down to 40.5 before winning 52. Last year they lost to the eventual champs in game 7 on a last second shot during a series where Joel Embiid was +89 in 252 minutes on the floor while the team was -108 in the 84 minutes he was off the floor.

The team had championship aspirations last season after getting Jimmy and Tobias. On paper, they were a more talented team with more star power. With that team, anything other than at least getting to the Finals was underachieving IMO.

Raptors were -200 favorites to win that series, so on paper they were the better team with the best player on the floor.

The over/under means nothing to me though. Losing in the 2nd round is underachieving when their goal and all of their moves and trades were done to win a championship. They had more talent on paper than the Raptors did. They had more talent on paper than the Celtics did the previous year.

The over/under and favorites in series are set by people who know sports waaaaay better than any of us. So the sixers winning a dozen more games than expected of them isnt an underachievement. Vegas said the Raptors and Celtics the year before were better than the Sixers and that was the truth, also not an underachievement. I know Simmons and Embiid are superstars in this league but they are still pups and werent anywhere near the usual 6 year time period where guys truly start competing for championships
