Vinyl Me Please Classics

I haven’t heard a single positive thing about this record, aside from the VMP write up 😀.

Is anyone actually getting this?
I think it’s a fantastic album and would be a fun album to spin while doing chores around the house or making dinner, much more ambiance based for sure. I’m just swapping out of it this month cause I’m sure it’ll be around for a long time to come, so no rush. In order to first get into it you may have to picture yourself dancing around your living space with a broom in hand. But yeah if you don’t like dancing it may not be your cup of tea, or salsa shall I say 🕺🏻💃🏿

I swapped for Alice Coltrane. It was between that and Eddie Floyd.

Definitely made the right choice, both are fantastic albums but Alice won’t be around much longer in swaps from what I understand. Journey In Satchidananda has PRESENCE, wasn’t initially sold when I streamed it but when I spun it for the first time I was magnetized to my seat.

Celia and Johnny? Hell yes! This is one of the great Salsa records, and the one that jump started Celia Cruz' career into stardom.

I guess if you don't like dancing and/or Salsa it might not be for you?
Hmm ok. So I actually do enjoy dancing(even though I’m not good at it) and I definitely enjoy salsa music, but not this album for whatever reason. I guess I’ll give it another shot but after my first few listens I prefer the other Fania records to this one. And it’s been a ghost town in here for the past month. I guess that’s partly because we knew the pick early buuuuuuut it also seems to be that people just aren’t into it. But feel free to prove me wrong here folks 🙂

I dig it but don't like getting too many records a month from VMP and went for Gorillaz and Clouds Taste Metallic over it.

Waaaaaaaay more interesting and enjoyable than Bobo in my opinion.

So much 🔥🔥🔥

Guess what? I resubbed...

I can’t miss QOTSA....

I got classics, swapped essentials for Demon Days and am trying to swap RHH for Angel Olsen’s new one.
Nice! Gorillaz’ Demon Days is soooooooooo damn good and I think you will actually really enjoy the Celia & Johnny album! I’m also loving the two singles Angel Olsen has released so far. They are so grandiose and lavish! I will probably get that album if I end up enjoying the full album!

So you already have a copy of The Flaming Lips’ The Soft Bulletin? You said you really like that album!

Bobo is a ridiculous pick, it’s such a run of the mill dull album. It’s pleasant enough but it’s just so not worthy, I mean instrumental covers of Michelle and other pop songs of the day, no thank you very much!

I have almost all the Flaming Lips albums on CD. They have a lot. I can’t justify the cost of replacing them all on vinyl just to get this essential and the two exclusives. I’m trying to box clever in relation to what I buy now, I’ve been far too indiscriminate in the past and I just don’t want to waste that amount of money going forward. I’ve just come back from the most amazing short holiday and I want to see more of the world (and get a Vespa....)

You don’t need to get all or any of The Flaming Lips on vinyl. But I think you should definitely get The Soft Bulletin on vinyl, if the reviews for the pressing are very good!

So I think keep the three albums you have chosen (Celia & Johnny, Gorillaz & Angel Olsen) as they are great picks, and then wait and see how everyone feels about the VMP pressing of The Soft Bulletin. If everyone is saying it sounds incredible, then you must swap your November R&HH ROTM for The Soft Bulletin!!!

PS - That’s so cute you want to get a Vespa. You’re already so cute like Little Stewart, so you riding a Vespa would be extremely adorable 😂

Nah, I’m an all or nothing guy Nathan. If i replace one cd I’d inevitably want to replace them all. Plus the cd sounds great and this album was originally recorded on DAT rather than tape so regardless of the pressing quality the vinyl isn’t going to be that much better. Next month will be classics, QOTSA and if I can get it as a swap desert sessions.

Did I tell you my holiday was in Spain on a Vespa? Covered about 400 miles in 3 days on one. They’re so much fun on windy country roads!

mmmmm fair enough, I had a feeling you were going to say that you either wanted none or all the Flaming Lips albums on vinyl, not one or two!

That sounds like an amazing holiday!!!! Which towns/cities did you go to? I’m guessing you met some really welcoming and friendly people too? You must of went to some really nice unspoilt places if you had your own transport there!

I think my next holiday is going to be just in Spain for around 9-10 weeks. I need to visit the country! I know I’ll love Spain so much!

I flew into Madrid. We got a bus out to Tamajon (about 80mins out) where we picked up the vespas and had a short training course and first ride.

The next day we traveled through the black villages and then over a mountain pass into the Segovia province where we stayed in a castle in Sepúlveda and the stayed in Pedraza which is one of the most beautiful villages I’ve ever been in. On the last day they dropped us back at Madrid airport but because my flight was late I headed into the city for a few hours.

It was amazing. The vespas were so much fun, the scenery was beautiful, the locals were so friendly and fun and the food and wine were to die for. Seriously Spain is so under rated for food, it’s easily as good as it’s neighbours in France and Italy, if not better in some ways!

OMG, I want to go so so badly!!! Your trip sounds like it was perfect for you!

I looked up Pedraza and oh my goodness, it looks stunning and like a real step back in time! It looks like it really has that authentic medieval feel! I’m so excited for Spain now 😁😂

The food is Spain would be no doubt just as good as Italy or France! My brother said Madrid and Saint Sebastian were top food cities he’s ever been too!

San Sebastián has more Michelin Star restaurants per head of population that any other city town in the world. It, and the rest of the Basque Country, is on my list without a shadow of a doubt!

The food I had in Madrid was good, as was Barcelona when I was there, but it was city food. Out in the countryside the food was more rustic but every bit as tasty, it was just so good and sharing tapas in a group is just such a great experience!

Mmmmm I have the impression that the food in the countryside would have that more rustic feel and would be absolutely delicious. And they’re so similar to France and Italy in that they use the produce that grows regionally/locally!

OMG, I need to stop spending less on vinyl and start saving slowly up for Spain! It really is my next country I want to visit. 100%! (Apart from going back to Thailand and Indonesian with a group of friends this February).
