Pitchfork sure is giving out a lot of BNM these days.

Didn’t used to be even one a week. You’d be lucky to have one a month. There’s two on the front page right now.

This is a meritocracy. Everyone gets a gold star for showing up

Eh, it's about as common as it's been the last 6-7 years. They frequency might have increased, but they're also reviewing a lot more stuff than they used to. And there's quite a few BNM designations these days, but the average rating is a lot lower. Nowhere near as many 9+ ratings as there used to be. It's a wider net graded at a higher curve, it seems like.
You can stream the new Kishi Bashi album, which isn't out till August 23rd rn, for like 12 more hours if you are a member of Joyful Noise VIP (5 bucks a month)!

My initial reaction was, wow, he's really channeling ELO here, and then I read the description, and they reference inspiration from ELO :) .
I know I will probably get flamed for this post but the new Kings of Leon is really good. Definitely their best in a long time.
Why did I chose U.N.K.L.E.'s "PSYENCE FICTION" album for the N&G AoTM? And what are some original sample sources? Read all about it here:
Today (May 13th) is the 10 year anniversary of Swans' To Be Kind album - my favourite album of 2014 and my favourite album of the 2010s.

Someday when I decide to actually put together my favourite albums of all time list, I'm sure To Be Kind will easily be a Top25, and maybe even a Top10 for me.

i've actually never listened to a swans album in full before (mostly because the ones I would like are way too long and I couldn't get into the no wave stuff).. maybe I should finally listen to his one

It's 121 minutes, 10 tracks. It's repetitive, tribal, raw, and pummeling. But, for me, most of all, it's cathartic. You've gotta listen to it in a certain atmosphere. You've gotta almost separate or seclude yourself. It's surely not for everyone. I had no idea it would be for me the first time I heard it. But you may find It's just what you needed 😉 Lemme know if you decide to give it a go 🎧
