Your Collection - By the numbers 2022

View attachment 162429
Hi! Our office has been notified that there is a discrepancy in your vinyl inventory. I’ve been dispatched to audit your collection. I’m going to need to see the receipts for all purchases made in the last five years. If you had them in triplicate, that would be very helpful.

Alright, closing the books here on 2022 with the year at a glance in one fell swoop:

2022 – End of Year Stats
Collection Size:
759
Added: +157
Removed: -47
Net: +110

I've been keeping detailed records (!) the past couple of years. In 2022, I spent $4,192 on new vinyl purchases, but also netted $2,454 in sales. It all adds up to a net spend of $1,738 for the year, which averages out to roughly $11.07 per new record (or at least that's what I tell myself to justify going deeper down the rabbit hole!).

Feeling really good about the collection at this point. The goal for 2023 is to acquire less, as I have sold or given away most of what I deem non-essential at this point, and the wish list is really quite small. The reality will look different, of course...

**This number should actually range between 525-550, but I have PIFs, preorders and purchases that haven't arrived yet, including a bunch of international batches of singles and I ran roughshod on a Boxing Day bargain bin over on the mainland.
😳

EDIT - Unexpected Saturday delivery! Numbers adjusted accordingly.

The final tally! I'm glad I did this, but I also kinda prefer being ignorant of these details. 😜

So 16 in November was a bit much really. Only one pre due in December so unless I go mad in England it should be a smaller amount coming in. Then for the great purge of early 2023…

End of 2022 update. In addition the Sigur Rós one I bought 5 records when I was at home. I haven’t got Santa yet so that will go into the 2023 count.

ended up with 45 in and 25 out. and going to continue to ignore that collection mentioned for now.

Collection size: 875
got 7 records coming in at some point this year ( preorder / PIF claims )

Hmmm. Not sure of most of my numbers but this is what I reckon my annual figures are. First up in the definite category

2022
Purchases: 141
Of which are singles: 39
New vs second hand: 71 vs 70

I checked my first post and I reckoned then my collection was 2250, and that's about what I think it is now so that rather suggests I've got rid of 140 or so. I got rid of some during my A-Z playthrough, but I decided to follow that by pulling out all the records I was not sure of and playing them all to see whether I should keep or sell them. So far, I'm selling about 50% of what I'm listening to - and am much happier with the state of my collection. (I really don't have room to buy that much more - including boxsets as my cunning boxset shelf is now over full after buying Nirvana and Charlatans sets). Happy to see the pace of purchases coming down and hoping to continue that this year - would be happy to buy quite a bit fewer new records.
