@Rip_City here's my list.

Calling it here, or else I'll probably forget to do it tomorrow. Still have some stuff I missed over the past year, but feeling pretty good about this list. So many good albums, and probably one of my most diverse lists genre-wise. Strove to expand my horizons this year, and I think I've succeeded.

I found it hard to pick an album of the year this year, so my top 5 and then 6-15 will all get even points. My total end of year list currently sits at 69 albums and continues to grow as I continue to catch up.

A very good friend of mine (and fellow music enthusiast) is a huge Trivium/Matt Heafy fan. I've always just been a casual fan (their 2021 In The Court Of The Dragon was their first album to make an AOTY list of mine). I, too, was excited to check out Matt's Ibaraki project once I first heard "Ronin". IMO, it's the best thing he's done yet. Rashomon ended up as my #13 album this year 🤘 Although it was a black metal project through and through, I also felt it was a pretty accessible metal album overall.

It just never went out of rotation for me after it came out. I think it's the perfect note for them to go out on, a culmination of everything else they'd done. I was really looking forward to seeing them on their farewell tour but unfortunately I had to leave town for a funeral the night before. Glad I saw them in 2019 when I had the chance.
