What's Spinning

Cross post from the March Challenge Thread:

DAY 2 – The Soprano's

Eagles ‎– Hotel California (Asylum Records, 1976 First Pressing)

I have never seen the end of the Soprano's (I have started it a few times but never made it that far) so I have no clue as to what today's choice needs to cover. From the picks already posted it looks like it is left open-ended and perhaps book-ended so that protagonist realises that he cant change his life and so he has to make the most of it? If that's correct then perhaps Hotel California could cover these themes?

'This could be heaven or this could be Hell'
'You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!'

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - The Last Set At Newport (Atlantic, 1972 First Italian Pressing)

Now here an example of a live performance done right. The story goes that Brubeck was so nervous about following Bill Chase's electric set that he begged the stage director to turn the sound up so he could compete (the director never complied). Within minutes you can hear him slot into his groove and at times he plays the piano like its a percussive instrument, hammering at the keys to produce a killer sound (a style which Cecil Taylor was known for). It went down so well that the audience went into a frenzy and the management had to call the police in to calm the crowds (you can imagine how that went down). Really killer album and one that you wouldn't expect from the 'nice guy' Brubeck!

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
