The N&G Top 500 Albums of All Time!!!

I submitted my top 50, finally. Like I was telling Woob, I could be tweaking this list forever. So many great records that were bubbling under.

Oh my goodness! I think I'm in love with you! This list makes me want to have an endless music listening vinyl session with you!!!

@Lee Newman - I low-key wanted to faint onto you when I saw you list Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" at #1!!! ♥️♥️♥️

My rankings go:
1. Sticky Fingers
2. Beggars Banquet
3. Let It Bleed
4. Exile On Main Street

The only reason I put Exile on the bottom of their iconic 4 is because it's the one I've spent the least time with, which I know needs to be remedied.
Mine are:
Let it Bleed
Exile
Sticky Fingers
Beggars

Then:
Some Girls
Black and Blue
Goats Head Soup

@Ghost - I'd love you to list your top 50 albums of all-time here (and send them to @Woob_woob afterwards). Even if that's too much, send through your top 20 albums! I know you're a humungous fan of D'Angelo's Voodoo and Al Green's Call Me, so I'd love to see what else you love!!! 😁
Oh boy that sounds like a time sink lmao. I’ll perhaps give it a try, no promises but thanks for the invitation!

I was the same way. I had always heard that Exile was their strongest album all the way through but the overall lack of singles always lead me to one of their other albums. A few years ago I finally spent some time with Exile and it hit me much harder than I’d expected. My new found appreciation also sparked an interest in re-examining some of their other later albums specifically Goat Head Soup and Tattoo You both of which; while not at the same caliber as the big 4, I am now quite fond of.

Goats Head Soup still takes my top spot as favorite Stones' album, but it is hard to deny the flawlessness of Exile.

Some really nice lists here and a lot of albums I never heard. Also, congrats to all of you who participated. I can't make a list of my ten favourite album, it would be a different one everyday.
I could make a list again today and it would be pretty different, though with repeat themes. Come on, give it a shot.

Exile is my favorite, probably because I spent so much time listening to it on a loop with Exile in Guyville when I was younger.

Exile is my favorite because it’s the one that really got me into the Stones after years of thinking Fingers was the only album worth listening to. I have a hard time saying Exiles is the best though, the production is such a mess.
I use favorite and best interchangeably but I understand your differentiation.

Well your all wrong because it’s Satanic Majesties Request ... I have spoken

24/

The Rolling Stones “Their Satanic Majesties Request “ 1967

The anti piper pepper ...this one is like a meld of 67 Beatles and Floyd ...and for some reason the Stones album I play the most ..it’s of its time ..but it has a strangely sinister yet innocent air ...not quite drugged out and spat out yet ..but on the way..and it’s the Brian Jones show ...he’s everywhere ..and some stockers on this ..2000 light years from home , she’s a rainbow , 2000 man , citadel , gomper ...even a Bill song ...and a 3D sleeve ...which took me years to acquire

Factoid- Bill Wyman “Every day at the studio it was a lottery as to who would turn up and what – if any – positive contribution they would make when they did. Keith would arrive with anywhere up to ten people, Brian with another half-a-dozen and it was the same for Mick. They were assorted girlfriends and friends. I hated it! Then again, so did Andrew (Oldham) and just gave up on it. There were times when I wish I could have done, too.”

My top 50 albums of all-time! This was an absolute treat to make and I really enjoyed spinning a lot of these albums on vinyl! I have pretty much all of these albums on vinyl too, which made the listing experience amazing! I wanted to narrow it only to one album per artist, for diversity!

It was tough choosing between Kate Bush's Hounds of Love and The Dreaming. However @Rip_City beautiful explanation as to why The Dreaming ranked high on his list is the same sentiments I feel and was the reason why I placed that album on my list, instead of Hounds Of Love. It was also hard choosing between Prince's Purple Rain and Dirty Mind, especially as Dirty Mind contains my favourite all-time prince song; When You Were Mine. However, Prince Purple Rain is so grand, defining, lavish, rich and colourful; it had to take the spot!

Portishead's Dummy, Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks, Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition, The Roots' Things Fall Apart, Al Green's Call Me, Billie Holiday's Lady Sings The Blues, The Smiths' Queen Is Dead, Britney Spears' Blackout, João Gilberto and Stan Getz' Getz/Gilberto and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon were all albums I adore that all just unfortunately missed the list! Those 10 albums are all runners up!

Thank you so much @Woob_woob for organising this! I love you and your efforts and energy so much! ♥️

Inspired by @Tys1, I put together a playlist from my top 50, in ranked order.

Since Regina Spektor’s ‘Songs’ is not available anywhere, feel free to look up ‘Consequence of Sound’ and slot it in between Asobi Seksu and Fugazi.

Apple Music link

If anyone else has done something similar, please share!

This is awesome. I planned on making a N&G Top 500 list (if nobody else does it first) and was just going to post the most popular song from each album represented UNLESS more people make their own top 50 playlist in which case I can add the overall consensus song. I know about half my favorite songs from my favorite albums were never singles.

I may have also done a playlist type thing.

Edit: I should note for most of these, i just picked one of my favorite songs on the album and tried to make a playlist that somewhat flowed while still sticking to the descending order of my top 50.
