Yeah it oddly muffles the tweeter.
Are you making any hi/lo adjustments with the dials?

Not that I advocate it because they look amazing in your space nude, but I’m just curious if clicking up the hi dial a bit would offset the grille being on vs off? Are the different dial settings evident upon changing?

Just interested how effectual those dials are really.

No changes until more break-in.

I'm going on record the MKI and MKII look identical side by side.
Crazy identical in the front but really all 3 pieces of the drivers and the xo are different.
It's the most ninja upgrade shit I've ever seen.
I have looked at them side by side scratching my head for a while now.
Detail of sound is a noticable different. But overall the heritage JBL sound is still all there.

I haven’t felt one of the new grille covers, how dense does it feel?
I assume they're the same as the L100 MKIs, they are thick but they feel porous. It's not regular foam, it's very light. But I agree in terms of sound, they kill a bit of the treble and they also limit the stage slightly. I pull them off for serious listening. But also they look badass off so it's ok.

The lightly used MKIIs deal is done. Drove 250 miles round trip to pick them up last night. Everything looks brand new and the seller gave me his receipt from the dealer.

Just getting them playing and I'm impressed right out of the gate with the sound.

Tops are more polished and the bass has some better detail. Not night and day different, but improved for sure to my ears.

Will keep breaking them in and also trying out the bi-wire and bi-amp features.
Decided I'm going to try the Denon integrated as a second power amp to the LF and the tubes on the HF for bi-amp setup. I'll also try the bi-wire cables before sending them back to BJC. It's nice they take cables back within 30 days even if custom ordered.

Here's my thoughts on a bi-amp chain.
Perseus Preamp Var Output 1 > ST-100 Power Amp> 4 Ohm Tap> JBL HF top posts (100 wpc)
Perseus Preamp Var Output 2 > Denon PMA-A110 Ext. Pre In> JBL LF bottom posts (160 WPC)

Then, this should be the last itch for a long time 🤞

Ok, the Denon is in the chain as the LF power amp today.
And it's definitely noticable right off the start.
The JBLs are giving a much bigger boost in sound. I would say it's equivalent to adding another sub or two!

Pretty kick ass punch hitting from the 12" woofers now, while the highs are singing clean and dynamic with the tube chain.

Solid state the low frequencies and tube the highs is working as a great combo. Bi-amp is worth the hype IMO.

HHHwhaT in tarnation

Remember that blowup furniture that was popular with kids in the 90s for half a minute? This has that aesthetic to me. Although it probably does sound great, it is not a look that will fit many spaces and it'll look like a dusty smudgey mess unless it's in a clean room.
