Record Store Day 2022

Woke up to the sound of the cat puking off the bedside table then got interrupted by the baby crying before I could get that cleaned up - fortunately the baby just needed readjusting in the crib (they've developed a habit of pushing themselves up throughout the night until their head is up against the edge of the crib and then they get grumpy about it! 🤣 ) Once baby and cat puke were taken care of I noticed my alarm was supposed to have gone of 20 minutes before, but I just got down to the store and there are just 4 people ahead of me - the regular RSD crew. No Swifts, Peppers or Jazz Dispensaries here, but I'm betting I should be good for my DLO3 the things I've committed to grabbing for others.

If you want this record, don't sleep on it. My local got loads of every release but only 1 copy of Bareilles.
 
I was 2nd in line (School Kids in NC does appointments, which is soooo nice) and decided on these three.
(Note: I had to swap out my first copy of the 1979 Bill Evans because of a weird finish on LP 1 side 2, track 1 that caused some clicking. Fortunately, my local is 2 blocks away and the owner is a great person who quickly swapped it for me.)

Update: listening to the Lou Reed demos and it's incredible. Great sound quality and very intimate (Lou and a guitar). I think there are plenty of copies of this one, but it's really worth paying $25.

2800 or so for a record like that one which had a big secondary market price, a dedicated fanbase, and a high profile felt low too. Distribution seems off.

I got my copy still but...

But, had some good news, my local messaged to say he had a copy in the other shop and put it to one side for me. He's going to bring it in the week.

someone tried to cop the Tswift from me for $50…. Like I waited since 4 am… I’m not risking being banned from my favorite store.

I also had someone behind me ready to mail like it was Black Friday…..

that Jonathan Richman record is probably my favorite album of his and is VERY hard to come by. I'm really tempted to venture out to get it, but there's 7,000 and with that many there will definitely be leftovers.

I’ve seen all 3 of these show up on Discogs in the past week, even before people even have them. All for reasonable~ pricing. I haven’t been out for RSD in 4 years, since they The National - Boxer (Live in Brussels) was released. I didn’t even get that at my local, I found it online after the fact for a reasonable price 😅
 
20-25 folks ahead of me this morning, but I still was able to grab the ones I wanted:

VA - Breakin': Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
VA - The Best of Chi-Sound Records 1976-1983
VA - Jazz Dispensary: Super Skunk
Art Pepper - Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section

Other notes: Folks were correct, Taylor Swift, any of the folks that wanted that, were SOL at my shop, to the point where the owner came out before opening the doors, and said "If you're here from the Taylor Swift, you can go back home now."
