I don’t think this is explained to high school students well enough. Everything has been drilled into us that 4 year college is your only path to success (I.e. making lots of money).

This depends entirely on your socioeconomic conditions. My oldest went to more urban schools and there were tracks to get students in careers like hvac, construction, or hair styling in addition to what is the more traditional path and she graduated high school ten years ago.
