New Music Friday!

Well, well, well...a (mostly) good set of new albums, and a trifecta of enjoyable concerts (Julianna Barwick, Hatchie, Jenny Hval) from last week.

🔥
  • Boldy James, Real Bad Man - Killing Nothing [glad I have made the time investment with his releases since '20]
  • Obongjayar - Some Nights I Dream of Doors
👍
  • Mary Halvorson - Amaryllis
  • Marina Herlop - Pripyat [it's too short!!!]
  • Leikeli47 - Shape Up [really fun trap]
  • Ravyn Lenae - Hypnos
  • Leyla McCalla - Breaking the Thermometer [close to 🔥]
  • Ogi - Monologues (EP)
  • Shabaka - Afrikan Culture (EP)
🤷‍♂️
  • Mary Lattimore, Paul Sukeena - West Kensington
👎
  • Lykke Li - Eyeeye [given the tags of ambient pop, indie pop, and singer/songwriter, I expected way more than I got]
  • mxmtoon - rising

"It's been ten years since Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita formed a duo. The seamless virtuosic union of the 47 strings of Catrin Finch's harp with the 22 strings on each neck of Seckou Keita's double kora – two cultures, two histories and two personalities merged into one atmospheric musical journey – has become a rare global music hit. Described by Songlines Magazine as 'one of the most popular world music acts of this decade', Finch and Keita create music that not only champions their exquisite instruments but blends elements of new and old music from the Western Classical, Celtic, folk, contemporary and West African song traditions, each echoing the other in an evolving tale of mutual discovery and delight."

Looking forward to this. Their last one is one of my favourite records (and somehow still in stock from the first run of 500 on their website)
