New Music Friday!

Matthew Herbert & London Contemporary Orchestra's The Horse is wonderfully EPIC.

(bolding my own to draw attention to some incredible collaborators)

The piece with Theon Cross absolutely SLAPS!
(but should not be taken as an indication of what the rest of the album sounds like!)

🔥
  • billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps [I don't think this should surprise anyone. Another W]
🤮
  • The National - First Two Pages of Frankenstein [woooooowwwwww this is not it. I'm disassociating progressively more and more from indie rock music in general, albums like this are not helping change my stance. Def bottom 10 of '23]

This album has given me Radiohead vibes, now I see it was produced by Thom Yorke. It's worth checking out, great atmosphere

Clark "Sus Dog"

Yeah, this is sounding great! What's up with Alyosha being the title of Susanne Sundfør and Clark tracks, released just weeks apart. Interesting coincidence.

Not a lot listened to, but more than recent weeks. Based on the way things have looked, my upcoming Q2 favorites chart might be very small. Not overly impressed.

🔥
  • Liturgy - 93696 [it's really intense, both as a time investment and as a vocal onslaught. However it resonates better for me than almost all metal albums from this year I've tried, with classical/baroque comedowns (sometimes a successive few) providing necessary breaks. A whirlwind of fury. Might try to catch this month's live show if my schedule works out]
👍
  • Kassa Overall - ANIMALS [thanks, @Bluecloud777. My favorite of this grouping; varied features]
  • Mandy, Indiana - i've seen a way [this and Water From Your Eyes appear to be the latest Pitchfork hypebeast projects. Both are enjoyable, but I'll leave it at that]
  • Gia Margaret - Romantic Piano [beautiful, yeah?]
  • M. Sage - Paradise Crick [slightly different ambient take than I'm accustomed to, and it worked out]
  • Water From Your Eyes - Everyone's Crushed
🤷‍♂️
  • Bodywash - I Held the Shape While I Could [it's fine, I guess. Competent dream pop]
  • Arlo Parks - My Soft Machine [didn't like her music before, didn't feel any different here]

Staaaaacked Friday upcoming

  • Protomartyr
  • Beach Fossils
  • Bully

probably some others that I'll like based on recommendations here
Got my copy of the new Bully album today. It picked me up quite a bit. I am already a fan though. I'd say if you like Bully, you'll like the album. It does sound almost more immediate than she was already heading towards on the last one. It just leaps out with hooks and riffs.

Really enjoying the Speakers Corner Quartet album. It’s exactly what I needed this morning. Thanks for the rec!!
