Fresh Grabs

Local store’s taking a break so they had a clearance sale - they bring in a lot of soundtracks and Third Man stuff so I didn’t hold back! The soundtrack for The Burning is a lot more over-the-top than I expected it to be - then again it’s Rick Wakeman, but somehow I thought it’d just be moody 80s synths - and I love it.

The record on its right is a pretty gnarly industrial synthwave album - local release by a guy I know, a horror movie geek and he lets it show in his music.

Scored some of these below over eBay Japan. Ride the Lightning is, miraculously, a UK original I got locally. Between this and the Scott Walkers I posted a few pages ago, I’m now convinced OG pressings aren’t always hard to find for a decent price.

Either that, or this is just a small reward from the universe for the incredibly shitty month I had in July. I’ll take it.

Haven’t seen a lot of talk about Akiko Yano here, but her work recently got an interesting reissue campaign by Wewantsounds, so this is a great time to check her out, for anyone interested.

Fresh grabs from the last two months! I'm officially restricting myself from anything outside of what I've already committed to for the rest of the year.

Blue Note Tone Poets:

One more Tone Poet (Mr. Shing-a-Ling - received in a great trade with @tvham ) and the rest are Blue Note 80th Anniversary reissues:

The latest round of the BN80 releases started including that little sticker you see in the upper left hand corner. As hype stickers go, it's really kinda pathetic. But, these 80th Anniversary releases are amazing. Not only do they sound great, but the attention to detail in the overall package is not talked about enough. Check out how they even matched the correct period Blue Note label to different records according to when they were originally released:

Some audiophile reissues of stuff I've been eyeing for a while:

Some early Blue Note early Liberty reissues:

Part 2!
Grabbed that QOTSA Lullabies first pressing that came up for sale a little while back, got Stone Temple Pilots from a PIF (thanks @Tys1), and I'd been wanting to find an original copy of Substance by New Order but decided to grab one of the unofficial reissues that cropped up a while back. It sounds a lot better than I had expected, so it'll tide me over.

Got this classic Jimmy McDuff - The Honeydripper OJC reissue for cheap and it was sealed! My luck did NOT extend to what was listed on ebay as a Cisco Records reissue of One Flight Up, my favorite Dexter Gordon album. When I got it, it was actually a Blue Note 75th Anniversary pressing and by far the worst quality BN75 pressing I've seen. I wouldn't even put it on my turntable because I'm sure it would wreck my stylus or something. The picture here shows the edge somehow all rough and torn up and the rest of the record is covered in scuffs and has several big scratches. It was supposedly a new copy.

A couple of Verve Vital Vinyl reissues:

And last but certainly not least... Finally picked up a Music Matters copy of Speak No Evil by Wayne Shorter. Decided to go with the sweet color variant as well.

Holy. Shit.
Did not know that variant of Speak No Evil existed.

Hmmm...🤔
