Fresh Grabs

Bad things about being away for 5 weeks on sabbatical - not getting to play records
Good things (apart from the 5 weeks 😊) - coming home to find an almighty pile of records at the post office. Here goes:

Creme de la creme is two massive stacks of Ebay African OG purchases, supplemented by some Discogs buys. From Mali, Senegal and Ghana mostly with some Nigeria and then lots of Benin at the end...

It's been a crazy busy month or two for me, I've been somewhat disengaged around here but I have scored some fantastic grabs. This is a few weeks worth and includes a newly released favourite, a couple of original/early pressings of old favourites and some quality reissues.

The Kenny Clarke and Bud Powell are Music Matters eBay scores, the Mobley and Coltrane Analogue Productions eBay scores. The near mint Blue Train AP for AU$58 (about US$40) was a bit of a pleasant shock and one of my better bargain pickups.
Nice score on that Blue Train AP press! 😍

This is an odd Fresh Grab, but it's definitely part of the fun of the hobby. So a while back I picked this up from a member and just recently a friend came across some info that this album was part of a press kit for DJ's in preparation for The Beatles. The kit included the following...

Meet the Beatles_Blr.jpgThis is the info my friend found about the promo copy, mines identical, so I decided to try and find the sticker and tabloid paper that went along with it.

I did find the sticker just recently and it came with a copy of the Capitol Memo discussing the the campaign, it's pretty interesting....

Now we need to find the tabloid :)
Here's my copy of the album...

Remember playing the crap out of this when it first dropped. Probably one of the first 10 CD's I ever owned.

Apparently $12 was the sweet spot to finally bite on this. :)

I am a year late on this one. Not sure how it slipped under my radar. Sounds f'ing fantastic (45rpm). If you have a decent system the last track (Blackbird) will blow your mind. Do your self a favor and check her out. Would have been in my top 3 favorite albums of 2018.
