Ch Ch Ch Changes! - David Bowie Talk

Bowie post on the front page made me wonder… are we expecting Bowie Box 6 to come out this year?

I’m thinking probably next. From what I gather the Columbia rights to the stuff from Heathen onwards ends at the end of 2022 and that’s when Parlophone’s distribution contract kicks in. After that they’ll probably hold off to Christmas 2023 to get the seasonal sales.

My expectation is yes. Usually they have been announced in July/August with a fall releases. Plus all the ownership has now be consolidated so theoretically it should be simple to do.

But with the 50th anniversary of Ziggy being this past June and all we got was a coloured vinyl and picture disc, who the hell knows. This would be the anniversary to do a deluxe edition for since it is arguably one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Is a lot in the vaults still from sessions between 71 and the final Ziggy show.

Edit: forgot which year this is and thought Parlophone already had full distro rights to everything.

Really like this version, the band is hot, and was rare of him to do live. Still timely today.

cred: Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays co-writing credit/collaboration

Never understood why they did not release an RSD 7" of this song and his cover of America for the 9/11 concert. Could do a 12" version as well with I am Afraid of Americans and Young Americans tossed in

could be something to do with the co writers (Lyle Mays has since passed away) not sure about Pat, or just politics tbh, who knows. I seen/worked the PMG live 15+ times and they only played it live twice.

I’ve been waiting for this email for months but now am getting cold feet about ordering the vinyl. I may buy the CD boxset and call it good? Or maybe not even that?

Same boat as you, but then I realized that I've listened to the few I have exactly once so far on vinyl.

I grabbed them all when they first came out, but hey a collector has to collect.

Glad they actually came through and are doing a repress of them. Not essential but worth picking up a couple as they have pretty decent set lists.

Which ones would you recommend?

Edit: never mind, I ordered the vinyl for one from each tour (Ouvrez Le Chien, Phoenix, and Something In The Air). I streamed all these releases a decent amount last year and had previously decided I’d order these if I had the chance.

It’s always hard to fight against completionist tendencies, though it’s a bit easier to do that it means saving hundreds of dollars; this was my compromise (with myself).

Good choices.

For me it goes
  1. Ouvrez le Chien
  2. Something in the Air
  3. No Trendy tied with Kit Kat
  4. Phoenix
  5. LiveandWell - this one is the least essential by a country mile.
