Best Music of 2019

Sharon Van Etten - Remind me Tomorrow, has been growing and growing with each new listen.
top of the list for me for sure, at this stage.

There's a nice interview/live gig at Sound Opinions (link to the podcast episode is below)
Did you see her performance of Seventeen with Norah Jones?! So good.

And I agree, it's top of my list right now for AOTY.

I don't know where I would place the New National album yet. Does anyone have it as the best thing they've heard this year or close to it?

After a few listens I'd say it was a 5/10 or 6/10, but with repetition it's grown on me a lot and I might think it's a solid 7/10, 8/10 or more.

I like it but it also just feels like "just" another big The National album. Not necessarily a bad thing but I wouldn't say it's a top 10 album of the year imo.

Will continue to edit/tweak but:

Tier 1: Will probably end up in my top 200 for the decade
1) Jai Paul: Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)
2) Nilifer Yanya- Miss Universe
3) Little Simz- Grey Arena
4) Sharon Van Etten- Remind Me Tomorrow
5) The Comet Is Coming: Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery

Tier 2: Might end up in my top 200 for the decade
6) Chemical Brothers- No Geography
7) Local Natives- Violet Street
8) Billy Woods- Hiding Places
9) These New Puritans- Inside the Rose
10 Weyes Blood- Titanic Rising

Still absorbing:
11) Julia Jacklin- Crushing
12) Jamila Woods- Legacy! Legacy!
13) Tyler The Creator- Igor

Tier 3: Solid
14) Chris Crack: Never Hated I Just Waited
15) Billy Eilish- When We All Fall Asleep
16) Blood Red Shoes- Get Tragic
17) DJ Yoda: Homecooking
18) Aesop Rock/Tobacco- Malibu Ken
19) Fontaines DC- Dogrel
20) Cherry Glazerr- Stuffed and Ready

Still need to get around to the new James Blake, Solange and a handful of others, but it feels like weakest year for music in some time. Maybe 2012?

2016 is still my favorite year of the decade so far, music-wise. Not sure if I could pick a least favorite since I didn't start keeping up with newly-released music until 2014/2015.
2016 was a heavy-hitter for me too. A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead, WORRY. by Jeff Rosenstock, Bottomless Pit by Death Grips and Weezer's White Album alone made that year worth it and that's just scratching the surface. You also had Danny Brown, Mitski, Bowie, Gambino and the list just goes on and on...

Have to add Flying Lotus to my list. It's really outstanding. Otherwise, in order by release date:

Better Oblivion Community Center - Self-titled
Beirut - Gallipoli
Millencolin - SOS
The Claypool Lennon Delirium - South of Reality
Dream Theater - Distance Over Time
Foals - Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1
The Comet Is Coming - Trust In The Lifeforce Of The Deep Mystery
Karen O & Danger Mouse - Lux Prima
Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Fishing For Fishes
Flying Lotus - Flamagra

In no particular order (basically as I see them on discogs)

The National - I Am Easy To Find
Strand Of Oaks - Eraserland

Kelly Finnigan - The Tales People Tell (probably my favorite so far)
Shovels And Rope - By Blood
Sasami* - Sasami
Durand Jones & The Indications - American Love Call
Better Oblivion Community Center - Better Oblivion Community Center

Jealous of all the Weyes Blood's I still haven't listened to it yet as I am holding out for the VMP one that probably won't ever come

I am sure there are more, I still have a backlog of VMP stuff that has new releases and a few I need to listen to again, VW, Kevin Morby, and Josh Ritter for example

Holy shit the new Chemical Brothers is soooo good. They've been on a roll ever since they did the masterful soundtrack for Hanna, but this thing is epic, fresh and addictive. Perfect workout music.

I need to pick it up on vinyl. It’s a great album! Not enough to squeak into my top 10, though. This year has been fantastic for music so far.

The Coathangers-"The Devil You Know" is outstanding on Suicide Squeeze. Great punk music and when I saw them live, they are at the top of their game.
My other favorites are Todd Snider's "Cash Cabin Sessions Vol 3", Juliana Hatfield's "Weird", Randy Rogers Band's " Hellbent", Sleaford Mods' "Eton Alive", Fontaines DC "Dogrel", Amyl and the Sniffers "s/t", Judy and the Jerks "Music for Donuts", Dale Watson "Call Me Lucky" Infamous Stringdusters "Rise Sun"...so far.

I don't know what it is but this year for me hasn't been great so far. I think the only two albums I've really enjoyed are Malibu Ken and Barry. At this point I doubt I'll even be able to put together a list at the end of the year.
