Album of The Year - Endgame

Haha, sorry! One of my favorites, but I love that whole album.

I love Bruce! And that album is awesome. It's just that song. And it may be because every time it came on when I was growing up, my dad would yell, "THIS IS THE WORST BRUCE SONG!!" I am my father's daughter, through and through.

My favorites of 1978:

1) Talking Heads "More Songs about Buildings and Food"
2) Elvis Costello "This Year's Model"
3) Ramones "Road To Ruin"
4) The Cars "The Cars"
5) Marvin Gaye "Here, My Dear"
6) Blondie "Parallel Lines"
7) Rolling Stones "Some Girls"
8) Albert Collins "Ice Pickin'"
9) The Clash "Give 'Em Enough Rope"
10) The Police "Outlandos D'Amour"

Honarable mentions:
Dire Straits "Dire Straits"
Bob Marley & The Wailers "Kaya"
Kraftwerk "The Man Machine"
Bruce Springsteen "Darkness at the Edge of Town"

I think it has always stood out to me because he seems a little more unhinged, which I can see turning people off.

I was looking at the Wikipedia entry for this song today and thought you might find this interesting:

In the 2010 documentary The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, sound mixer Chuck Plotkin described Springsteen's instructions for how the jarring assault of this song should sound next to the more melodic tunes on Darkness. Springsteen told Plotkin to think of a movie showing two lovers having a picnic, when the scene suddenly cuts to a dead body. This song, the singer explained, is that body.

I need to watch that documentary.

Wow. That actually makes the song make more sense. And it definitely an appropriate description of how jarring that song is. Who knew Bruce had that in him? Lol
