Album of The Year - Endgame

I will say that it's not my favorite Murder By Death album (In bocca al lupo gets that title), but it is in my top 10 for "Best album names of all time"
Wow, totally forgot about that album. I need to give it another listen.

I relistened this morning. Agreed that In Bocca is my favourite but I do love the debut too. I miss those dark and stormy instrumentals.

Some context to the listing, the top 2 are in my top 5 of the decade, the top 6 or so are probably in my top 25, I'd give 4.5 or 5 stars to everything on this list and I think Yoshimi is about equal with the Soft Bulletin, which was my #1 for 1999.

This might be the best year of this millennium so far.

Add on albums by Beck, Coldplay, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Sigur Ros, Bright Eyes, etc. that are very worthy. The year is a little weak as far as hip-hop goes with good efforts by The Roots, Missy Elliot, and Clipse leading the way.

the first 45 seconds of Untitled still gives me chills.

perhaps the only more remarkable to-the-masses debut track is Dramamine

1. Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights

By a HUGE margin. It was one of THE most mind blowing albums on a first listen I've ever heard. It ushered in the aughts/nyc scene. It's a stunning album and they have never ever even come close to replicating it nor are they even the same band. And it being so much higher in my mind than the #2 on my list says a lot

2. Sleater Kinney - One Beat
3. Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
4. Sigur Ros - ( )
5. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
6. Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
7. Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
8. Doves - The Last Broadcast
9. Christina Aguillera - Stripped
10. Justin Timberlake - Justified

2002:
1) The Books - Thought for Food (I don't know how to explain it but The Books reorient something in my brain that is confusing/pleasurable/exciting all at the same time)
2) The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas (these are the only The Mountain Goats albums that I particularly care for but I really love them)
3) The Mountain Goats - Tallahassee
4) Boards of Canada - Geogaddi (Boards of Canada rule!)
5) Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (so I hadn't spent much time with this one before going through these, I like it!)
6) Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (this seems low, maybe my familiarity with this album hurt it as I hadn't listened to the albums above it in a while)
7) Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People
8) The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
9) Spoon - Kill the Moonlight
10) Sleater Kinney - One Beat

I make these lists based on what I like/appreciate the most now. I don't think I was listening to many of these at the time except maybe The Mountain Goats and The Flaming Lips. A lot of memories/feelings associated with those MG albums.

EDIT: whoops, forgot Godspeed
