Album of The Year - Endgame

1976

  1. The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers
  2. Joni Mitchell - Hejira
  3. Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers
  4. David Bowie - Station to Station
  5. Ramones - Ramones
  6. Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
  7. The Upsetters - Super Ape
  8. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  9. Boston - Boston

That's it...... this feels like a throwaway/transition year from early 70s to later 70s and punk. A lot of garbage 70s rock albums this year, bang average releases from a lot of artists that have better albums.

1. David Bowie - Station To Station
2. Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
3. Mort Garson - Plantasia
4. Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior
5. Rush - 2112
6. Joni Mitchell - Hejira
7. Marvin Gaye - I Want You
8. Goblin - Rollers
9. Magma - Üdü Ẁüdü
10. Sun Ra - Cosmos

Man, that year was... scarce 😂

Finally, a list that wasn't too hard to make! Looks like my choices are similar to many others. 1976 was 11 years before I was born, so most of my picks come from having listened to these through most of my life

1. Boston - S/T. First record I played after my wife's grandmother gave us her turntable. I fell back in love with the sound, after a long hiatus from listening to records as a wee lad. This album never gets old.
2. Heart - Dreamboat Annie
3. Ramones - S/T
4. Rush - 2112
5. AC/DC - High Voltage
6. Blue Oyster Cult - Agents of Fortune
7. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - S/T
8. Queen - A Day At the Races
9. Blondie - S/T
10. Doobie Brothers - Takin It to the Streets. Not seeing a lot of love for this one. This is my dad's favorite band, so I may be a bit biased.

Ramones - Ramones
David Bowie - Station To Station
Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action
Tom Waits - Small Change
Willie Nelson - The Troublemaker
Boston - Boston
Blondie - Blondie
ABBA - Arrival
Funkadelic - Hardcore Jollies
Joni Mitchell - Hejira
Patti Smith Group - Radio Ethiopia
Kiss - Destroyer
Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees
AC/DC - High Voltage
Aerosmith - Rocks
The Upsetters - Super Ape
Blue Oyster Cult - Agents Of Fortune
Jeff Beck - Wired
Scorpions - Virgin Killer
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - self-titled

Even though I doubt anyone else will have that Scorpions album on their list, I really do enjoy it. Easily my favorite album of theirs.
And I'll take it any day of the week over Hotel California, also released in '76. No. Thank. You.
I heavily considered it myself.

Also: "I hate the fucking Eagles man." seems especially appropriate here.

For those of us who aren't familiar with Ryo Fukui, the album's on Youtube, but not Spotify. In fact, when searching for it, I found a playlist called "tfw ryo fukui isnt on spotify" and another more aggressive playlist called "why the f#%k is ryo fukui not on spotify"

Oh boy, 12 year old me was making my cousins crazy because they were deeply entrenched in ABBA and Disco Duck by Rick Dees :)

In no particular order:
  • David Bowie - Station to Station
  • Boston - Boston
  • Blondie - Blondie
  • Ramones - Ramones
  • Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
  • Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
  • Eagles - Hotel California
  • Rush - 2112
  • ELO - A New World Record
  • Genesis - A Trick of the Tail

...........not that there's anything wrong with ABBA or Rick Dees.................well, ABBA anyway :p

6. Ryo Fukui - Scenery
7. Tom Zé - Estudando o samba
8. The Upsetters - Super Ape

Yes! I'm not the only one who put Tom Zé on their list!
That album is the classic, it belongs on there for Doi alone:
