Honestly, not finished with first listen, but it’s not as bad as expected. It’s mostly boring. King of Nothing and Wasting my Hate are highlights. Hero of the Day and Mama Said are low points.
Load is the better of the 2 - Reload really seems like half finished songs that they quickly threw together. Bleeding Me would be my favorite from Load. The late 90's/ early 2000 weren't good for them, though. Napster, the Load/Reload short hair albums, the new "Garage Days" covering Bob Seger and Lynyrd Skynyrd?? And then St. Anger....ugh.
Lol, the high points off of Load are Hero, Mama, House, and Thorn. But, alas, #MusicIsSubjective
As far as Metallica albums being long, they are all long Their shortest is Lightning at like 47 mins, I believe. I would argue that there is some fat to be trimmed on every album after Justice, though.
I was a suburban pre-teen when these came out, so I was the perfect age for that kind of hard rock. Also saw them in '98 so they played a lot of those tunes. I have nostalgia for them, but they're definitely nothing like the 80s albums.
I watched an album ranking done by Tastes Like Music YouTube channel. They said Load/Reload were the reason for bands like Nickelback and Three Doors Down, and it kinda blew my mind.
Thanks @ranbalam now I have a crunchy version of Dancing Queen in my head with Hetfield growl: YOU ARE THE DAMCING QUEEN SWEET AND YOUNG ONLY SEVENTEEN!
