I grew up listening to oldies and I've also never really warmed up to the Beach Boys. It ain't for lack of trying.

But have you heard the 1979 disco remix of “Here Comes The Night” yet?

Ultimate sad sack music dressed up in matching sweaters. The early stuff is cheeseball fun while the latter stuff is crushingly depressing and increasingly drug addled. Kind of like the dark side of drug-pop music to The Beatles' light side

I'm only really into the period of pet sounds to surf's up..

Word of advice from a geezer, life's short, use the time to listen to what you like not post quick takes about it

You definitely need to pick and choose certain songs/albums/eras. They vary drastically from cringe, all the way to the greatest song (Surf’s Up) of all time and to possibly greatest album (Pet Sounds) of all time.

Pet Sounds is not bad, maybe even good. Definitely overrated.

Maybe they don't get or like YOU!

The Beach Boys are like the Beatles and Paul Simon in my life, in that they're just part of my childhood soundtrack. My dad played Beach Boys songs on guitar for us when we were little.

I’ve never really listened to The Beach Boys, and the only thing I really knew were their Pet Sounds hits that would come out in movies… I listened to a couple of albums after a Pet Sounds rerelease and I just didn’t get into them

Not saying they’re bad or anything, just not my thing. Which was surprising because they’re so popular and highly recommended. I think I was just expecting better…

I’ve said this before, but I had a similar experience with Pet Sounds. I purchased a copy on CD way back in 2001 after reading a bunch of write ups in music mags about how amazing it was. I was initially disappointed but something about the album kept pulling it back in and after a year or so, it all clicked and became my favorite album.
