Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

Finally had an opportunity to audition a Bryston 3B3 power amplifier this past week ... it sailed past most of the other options we've tried to date. It has more space, depth, body, range: everything. It's MORE. So, ordered one. 6-8 weeks build time. Decided to use the Moon as a preamp for the time being and do our part for domestic manufacturing by buying new instead of shopping used for the entire stack.

And now I need a new rack. My already stuffed Salamander Archetype isn't going to accommodate it easily. I'm looking at a Salamander Synergy SN30. It has lots more space for gear. I love how bulletproof the Archetype has been, and it should just slide in between the cabinetry and the front left speaker. Here's hoping their stuff isn't getting hit too hard by the retaliatory tariffs.

Well, shit. The tariffs will make the Synergy rack too expensive for my dealer to bring in and sell. They may sell me their demo model instead.

If the demo model falls through, I'll beg for inspiration for something with space for seven components, 11-12 inches clearance between the bottom and middle shelves, and no wider than 48'ish inches.

Check out Solid Steel. They’re Italian, and well made. Their VR-3 may fit your needs.

Much to my relief, my dealer has decided they're fine with selling us their Synergy floor model. Thanks again for pointing me toward SolidSteel as an alternative @SnowmaNick. It's a sharp looking unit, and would have been a fantastic fallback option if it were just a bit less wide, but the extra five inches would have proven problematic.

Just put this in and got it running; A Vertere DG-X

It is the ultimate revision of what began as the DG-1 back in 2020. This sounded great but it was a bit weird and- bluntly- when confronted with it, boxed and waiting for install, would be customers looked at it, then the Rega Planar 8/10 and bought the Rega. A revision called DG-1S made the whole thing more approachable but still a little intimidating.

This time, I think they might be about there. The arm looks the same as before but it now uses a bearing like the one on the SG-1 arm. This allows the armwand to lift off completely so, if you order it with a cart, it ships with alignment and weight factory set. Pop the arm on the spindle, plug in a USB micro B plug (yes, really; it's apparently perfect for the signal and only fits the right way) and it's good to go.

It still looks... different... but It's grown on me over the years. The thing is that it now is about as easy as a Planar 10 to get up and running which I think will make a difference to its prospects. Early indicators are it sounds pretty decent too.

Oh yes, the cart might be of interest too;

This is a Sabre Lite and it's the cheapest full Vertere cart yet. It's a moving magnet type, comes with those knurled thumbscrews (trust me, you'll never want to use a bolt ever again) and is yours (in the UK anyway) for £495.

Gotta clean up all that shit in the middle like the PS5 etc, but they definitely look the part down here...
This is looking fantastic

Tubes, especially the SET amp guys, and horns is a cult. Like the illuminati type stuff.

Just let them have their audiophile precious 🤣
What if I'm a PSET box speaker guy? Cult curious?

Love that standby button placement 👌.

Meanwhile; today I am relearning how tonearms work;

I won't lie, I'm quite impressed so far.
Excited to read the review on this one. I'd love to live with a linear tracking arm at some point.

I know you worked this out, but I was going to suggest looking at a local woodworker as well. I love my new rack that was built to my specs.

Idk what PSET is?
Parallel SET. Basically two matching tubes in the SET circuit to increase power.

"the signal path being split apart and then reassembled" is a description of how a push-pull amp works.
PSET amp does not split the signal, the driver tube simply drives the two output tubes via a capacitor or interstage transformer and those two tubes output are combined into the output transformer.
