The Blue Note Thread

I'd be lying if I said that I haven't bought every single BN80 available.

So I'm saying I bought them all.

A few have some with bent corners and such but I don't know, I guess I don't mind it that much. The records themselves are fantastic and the pricing on these are just so fantastic that I don't really mind an imperfect sleeve.
 
Here's some books I recommended on the Jazz thread @Dark Star Boogie And another vote for As Serious As Your Life, although it does focus more on the avant guarde.

The Story of Love Supreme by Ashley Kahn is really good, Herbie Hancock's auotobio is pretty good, there is a Coltrane book by Lewis Porter that's pretty good as well, but it's a bit dry and has a lot of music theory discussions .There's a good making of Bitches Brew called Listen To This by Victor Svorinich .

Wayne Shorter has a book as well, Footprints by Michelle Mercer , done with his input, It's not as good as Herbies for me, there is a lot less about the music in it, still worth a read if you can pick it up cheap, or from the Library for Free !!
There is another Coltrane book by Ben Ratliff called the The Story Of A Sound about his evolution which I got from the library a few years ago which I enjoyed, might have to reread that one soon .

I listened to the Grant Green – Grants First Stand BN80 reissue last night and its superb! I have a very early pressing of Grant Stand which I have always said is an awesome sounding record, and the BN80 certainly comes close to it in terms of sound quality! Really happy with it and I have a couple more to listen to when I have the chance!
 
Was at a record shop and came across a killer Blue Note session by Jack Wilson, with Roy Ayers on vibes! Didn't buy it, because it was too beat up for the price, but it did prompt me to listen to it at home. What an amazing album. Really cool to hear Roy Ayers as a sideman. This would make for a great Tone Poet release.

No jacket.

Replacement package was empty Gordon Jacket, Corrected Shorter LP in a poly sleeve and dumb info card explaining what it was and that Ant One members will get first chance at Ant Two (you know besides billboard and everyone who reads Motown.com)

They should advertise "dumb info cards" for the next batch of Anthology! We got a bunch of them in this 1st batch.

Superb stuff! Its a great one to have at hand when your listening to a BN record which features in the book. Lots of extra session photos and the write ups are great. I spent last night reading the Verve book which is basically the same layout etc, I recommend that as well!

Your spreadsheet is the best/worst thing to happen to me ever.
 
In terms of the Tone Poets so far I have Excetera, State Of The Tenor Vol. 2, Cornbread, Face To Face, Introducing Kenny Burrell and Black Fire and honestly that Burrell is just ten thousand flame emojis. I love it so much, and then Excetera and Cornbread are a close second. But those congas are just incredible. The tone on the guitar... it's phenomenal.

You should get Chick Corea next...it sounds so much better than the streaming version.
