Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I'm going to go ahead and get a second membership. Err, I mean a friend with a similar name as mine is going to get a second membership. I would like to use one of your codes but would prefer to spread the love to someone who hasn't had anyone use their referral yet. So first person to respond to this will get picked.

And not that I mean this as a quid pro quo, but I might as well throw my referral code out there too, right? Referral code

I had a look at that because I thought it looked like a good deal.

I could only pick 4 out of the 8 bonus albums from the selection.

Talk about omens lol!
I hadn’t been a member for a few years so it was easy enough for me. But if you’d been hoovering up essentials semi consistently I can see where it may be more difficult.

Left a few on the table too. Still wish I’d given the Jailbreak a go to see if it’s an upgrade on my ancient copy. Was a bit disappointed to miss out Roberta Flack also but I’m sure it’ll be back and I’ve no doubt I’ll be a swappin plenty this year

A lot of it is that I just don’t seem to connect with their picks at all anymore. Out of the 12 essentials this year I’d only get sly. I got the thin lizzy and interpol last time I did a 3 month when they were out. I wouldn’t mind getting 2 or 3 they have but that’s really about it.

I’m impressed with the Nebraska but I’m not sure I’d say it’s an upgrade over the box set one from a few years back. Love the Dinah Washington and am happy enough to give Is This It a go after enjoying their room on fire. Other than that I grabbed Sigar Ros, Beastie Boys, Courtney Barnett, Interpol and Stooges.

I’ve the same concern about what I’m really going to like in the next 12 months though.in the next few think there’s only Heart and Zz that I’ve more than a passing interest in so I’m pretty confident I’ll be giving the VMP jailbreak a go at some point in the next few months

Nebraska, out of curiosity (I have the breakout from that boxset that came out the following RSD), Blonde on Blonde (I have the 2010 MOV from the same mono plates but I’d played it a lot over the last 10 years and it’s no longer all that minty) and sly were the three. I’d probably say ibeyi would make 4. But that’s about it and 2 are things I do already have. Combine that with a complete indifference to 90% of what they release these days and it’s not easy. Maybe on day they’ll move back towards stuff I’m interested in more regularly but I’m not hopeful given the first 6 months of the rock track, which you would think should suit me.

Get the jailbreak. It’s a fantastic press. It has a real presence to it.

I thought Nebraska was a sonic upgrade. A few that sounded much better than other presses I had include

Bella Donna,
Room On Fire,
Moon Safari,
Anthem Of The Sun,
Blonde On Blonde,

and in particular
There's A Riot Goin' On and
Grevious Angel

All of these I just felt were a step up from other recent presses.

Sorry to ask, but for the referral code discount, is it that I send a referral code to my partner, and they get the discount?

Sly still had that murk but you could hear a few features and notes drift through which had previously been hidden. Grevious Angel you could crank a little more. Again a little more detail. You probably could live without the upgrade but to me when you put on a real nice sounding record it's like drinking a black bush instead of a bush, that little bit more of a treat. I also found the Trident by McCoy Tyner a sweet sounding album.

One thing about the Nebraska was it was absolutely silent. Totally clean pressing. I think it’s possibly better in that regard than my box version. It’s actually great. Really, really great. But so is the last re-issue.

One thing that I know is that the majority of records I’ve flogged over the years have been VMP ones though so I’m going to be a bit more particular about whether I take a record at any point. Not filling my shiny new shelf with any old coloured shit just because ‘The Storff’ thinks it’s a solid choice. Also I’m past the point of pretending I like much jazz past vocal jazz (which I still love) so they can keep all that bollocks too

Yeah and you know what that last couple of lines is me too. I’ve sold so many of the albums I picked up in my 2 years a regular subscriber and I also have no interest in instrumental jazz and I like the vocal jazz mostly where I really like the singer. I kinda don’t need VMP for that.

Their rock and indie picks also increasingly tend to not be my thing, They can do very nice pressings when it’s something I want but I’m definitely more fussy in making sure that it is.

Increassingly I feel they are better for upgrading a copy of something you know and like, e.g. There's A Riot Goin' On or Moon Safari, than for new discovery. Better to bring your old copy of Sly to the second hand store as it will probably be worth more than some lost sound found.

Yeah I get that. But for the EU they collect the VAT in the basket. The extra 23% makes them very very expensive upgrades. Especially given the existing Nebraska is very good and the Blonde on Blonde is pressed from the exact same plates as the one I have, it’s just that it’s more than a bit pre loved after 10 years and me not being quite as precious over my records when I started collecting!

See, up here we avoid VAT, so with the free records and discounts it works out pretty well. At 23% extra? ... nah you will be fine.
