My guess is the label was only willing to give Chad licencing on 45rpm and not 33rpm. Also, 45rpm probably not the best format for Prog Rock like Yes and Genesis. Definitely feels like a money grab.
Label dudes were saying “Fuck Chad,” but it didn’t sound great. Then a bean counter in the basement had a brilliant idea — “try saying ‘Fuck Chad” faster!” And it sounded great! Indeed, sounded exactly like, “cha ching”

Your takes are sometimes a little hot for me, but I have to admit, this was basically my reaction, too. I thought most "audiophiles' had kind of moved on from 2x45RPMs. I sort of get it for excellently recorded jazz albums, but it seems like overkill for most of these albums. There's the Hootie and the Matchbox 20 that just musically aren't my thing, but even albums like STP's Purple, which I like, I don't feel any compulsion to buy a 2x45RPM. And the Velvet Underground? Sure it's a great album, but I'm skeptical they'll be able to improve the sound that much just by spreading it out over two discs; I imagine there are real limitations with those original tapes.
Yes, I suppose I can be a bit hot. I call it as I see it, my opinion only, but my goal is to disrupt some thinking that can overcome 'audiophiles' that they need every new reissue of the same old titles that really don't offer anyting other than a few different turns of the knobs in mastering

Audiophiles fall into this trap, that Chad is very well exploiting.

45 rpm is just not a very good listening experience. I guess if one is into sound for the sake of sound it can offer/exploit that, and certainly it appeals to a collect mentality and the allure of exclusivity, and any status that some may take from that.

My purpose is also to encourage people to move beyond yet another reissue of Giant Steps and Kind of Blue and explore the vast world of music out there on vinyl. There are so many great pieces of music to discover, IMO much more rewarding that seeking out the latest knob tweak of titles we all have owned and heard repetitively.

This was sort of my impression as well. Not a lot of new ground being covered here. Lot's of those have excellent reissues not so long ago that are still available.
  • Most of the Mingus, Les McCann, and Dr. John titles are in print from Speakers Corner
  • Most of the Coltrane's where recently done by Kevin Gray and Bernie and in print (Rhino & ORG)
  • Mofi did the Foreigner, David Crosby, and CSN
  • VMP did Prine, Donny Hathaway, and Willie
  • AP has already done 45's of Dusty Springfield and Otis Blue

The only one I maybe want is Mingus Blues & Roots which I think hasn't had a good reissue in a very long time as far as I know. Or nothing that was decently priced last I checked. And I probably would have been in on the Otis Reddings if they weren't stereo.

Prine is an amazing album but KG cut one AND VMP did it too. Had some of these been on 33 I would have gotten a few others.
