Apologies if this has already been posted, but haven't been following of late. Nathan Davis, Hip Walk is being re-issued through MPS

I was offered a signed OG copy of this once but it was a bit too pricey for me. Thoroughly regret it now.

I think @Portland Sheriff might have posted this? MPS is starting to do a bunch of cool reissues

Yes. The jazz reissue/repress decisions are based on my private buying decisions.

After waiting years for a reissue/repress of a title, I finally cave and splurge on an existing copy (like what happened to me with Speakers Corner “The Hip Walk,” which at least I got at a relatively good, but still premium price), and a reissue is announced within a month or three of me giving up and caving.

Based on this pattern, you should all anticipate a reissue of Mal Waldron/Terumasa Hino “Reminicent Suite” soon.

Also, while I haven’t splurged on this Benny Bailey title, it’s been in my waiting-for-reissue queue for a while, and to help out those hoping for a reissue, I might pull the trigger and elicit one for you.

I might be late to the party but I just noticed We Jazz Records are doing a 30% discount on everything on their Bandcamp. I grabbed the magazines I was missing.

Use STOCK23 at check-out.

Nice! That new one has a big write up about Dorothy Ashby I think!

I picked it up last week and it does indeed. Seems the universe is trying to convince me to get the set 🤣
get it before its gone! it's a really well done set. FNAC had quite a good deal on it (not sure if they still do). only annoyance is one record had a pressing error in a limited number of the boxes where I think Jazz Harpist had side B pressed on both sides! Mine was fine but I know some people who had that issue.

Mine is one of those and and New Land has promised they'll get me a fixed copy as soon as they have them in hand; so it's annoying but they're doing right by folks. Not all the FNAC copies are defective, it's kinda luck of the draw I guess....

I'll check on mine then. Thanks.

Saw this yesterday. On the one hand, hard to believe and accept – but on the other, watching him play the instrument with that level of passion and effort (I've never seen anything else like it) it was pretty obvious that it couldn't continue indefinitely. Glad we will still get music from him, and beyond grateful I was able to see Sons of Kemet and Comet is Coming perform live multiple times.

Only missed Shabaka and the Ancestors. Even had the chance to see Sons Of Kemet XL with four drummers.

Sax aside, Afrikan Culture is a really good record.

Living in London I've been lucky enough to see Shabaka in one of his many groups quite a few times now and gigs and festivals. I must have seen The Comet Is Coming and Sons Of Kemet at least 5 times each, probably more. Every time they bring something new and the energy levels are always so high, I have yet to leave a performance thinking they were not as good as before.

For the past 6months now I've been noticing that he's dabbled in different instruments (at one point he even played a wooden flute whilst walking on a treadmill to build his breath control), so I'm not overly surprised that hes moving on to other things, but still sad. Hopefully its just a pause rather than a complete finish.

Yup Afrikan Culture was a sing too. A known saxophone player making an album without saxophone could have left us think something was going on. Anyway, if he puts the same love and energy he puts on saxophone on his future projects, we'll keep following him for a while.

I spent a little over a year and a little over $100 Canadian dollars to get a copy of this, but it looks like Cosmic Myth has repressed their early titles to coincide with their release of the Jazz in Silhouette expanded edition...

This sweet trio set is a favourite of mine in the vast Sun Ra catalogue and is now available for $20 (USD) on Bandcamp or around £18 from Juno..
