Fresh Grabs

I wish I was there to get them myself! I've been to the Island quite a few times but the last visit was towards the end of Covid and I discovered the shop but it wasn't quite open yet. I gave some $$$ to my Dad who goes for business to grab three albums I really wanted and to ask the shop or pick out a few others himself. The guy in the shop went above and beyond talking to my Dad for a good hour+ and ended up not only suggesting a few but also threw a couple in for free along with the other stuff so that was def. an awesome unsuspected surprise! I'm looking forward to checking the shop out for myself though hopefully much sooner then later 🌴

The Compilation was a surprise get so i'm looking forward to blindly spinning that one but fully agree on the other two!

It was a random lucky find on ebay for around $20ish.. The sound quality is VERY underwhelming though honestly and I don't get the high praise AT ALL on Discogs even with it being a boot unless I just got unlucky with the exact version I got? If you get a copy, i'd def. suggest going for the ones that have Jay and The Beatles on the front cover as i'm guessing those sound better especially if you can find an og 2004 GRAYLP-1 release that was numbered to /1000.. Those supposedly involved Danger Mouse before he got the "cease and desist" from Capital.

On the bright side though, Aloha Got Soul has hit home runs on every vinyl release i've heard. The few from the above batch that i've listened to so far were stellar pressings as well.
Awesome! They were having an in-store with a brewery and a DJ when we dropped by, but just a little too busy to get around much in the small store.

KPG cut; pressed at Pallas; stoked!

Nice! This is the copy I own as well it sounds great.

The only small issue I have is with this copies album art. The back cover of the original CD had a Sesame Street Ernie puppet in middle of a mosh pit but this version he's been photoshopped out. I am guessing its a copyright issue but still I miss Ern.

I hadn't caught that on a quick glance earlier, but you're right. That's sad.

They removed that from the CD presses as well

It's been a few months since I wrangled up my new stuff so it's not THAT much if you do the math. I figured I should clear some room before everything I ordered in the last week starts showing up 😬

Happy to finally have a copy of the Gray Album and got it for a great price on ebay along with the Joe Bob & The Lone Stars – Monster Mash Lathe cut! Then a couple pre-orders.

Got 3 Hazemaze albums from there Bandcamp and they sent me an unbelievably boring black copy instead of the bubbly hot pink beauty I ordered but i'm pretty sure i'll survive.

Test Press of HO: A Dan Band Christmas and one of the few Atmosphere albums I was missing.. Wtf were they thinking when making the crayon holder permanently attached to the jacket?

Was looking for a copy of Grey album a while back too but never grabbed a copy! That one looks pretty cool though

Tribe - The Story Of Tribe Records (Tribe Records, 2021 Vinyl Me Please Anthology Box Set Pressing)
The Comedy Store - 50 Years Of The Comedy Store (Vinyl Me Please, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Anthology Box Set Pressing)
Thelonious Monk Septet - Monk's Music (Riverside Records, 2023 Vinyl Me Please Classics Pressing)
Swizz Beatz - Long Live Jazz (12on12, 2022 Limited Pressing)
Smiley - Smiley 50th Anniversary (12on12, 2022 Limited Pressing)

The last of the VMP packages finally arrived today. Royal Mail once again put a label with an incorrect address over the VMP one which is correct. By the grace of the gods my local postman was the person that sorted them this morning and happened to recognise my name on one of the boxes (the Tribe box) and brought it to me, otherwise who knows where it would have ended up.

I opened up the Tribe box and listened to the first album. Absolutely fantastic, I am so glad that I ended up getting this, I just know its going to get lots of plays! Fantastic music, a fantastic box, heavyweight glossy sleeves, and from a visual inspection the discs look flat.

I also listened to Monk (which happened to be one of the few of his that I did have) and it sounds incredible too!

Finally, the "No way I would pay full price for that" swaps package. I've been pondering over the Comedy Store set whilst waiting for it to arrive, im not overly familiar with the comedians on it so I'm hoping it doesn't go over my head. Definitely an impulse buy. The two 12on12's are also intriguing and I will likely crack into the jazz set first. I still don't really understand why these are priced so high....

That Jam complication is really great. You’ll have to let me know how the Cat Stevens sounds, I’ve been meaning to pick the reissue up since it came out!
Oh yeah, Snap! is my favorite compilation ever. I have a nice og, but I couldn't pass on the reissue for $0.00

Teaser sounds really good to me. It's the 2022 Europe version. No pressing issues on my copy. There's air and texture in the quieter acoustic songs. And it's lush and dynamic during the bigger numbers. Cat's voice sounds great too, front and center and rich.
